HP Pavilion dv6000 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

After you click on the above file name it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.
This is because the file is downloading in the background, and will not show until fully downloaded.

Go to Page 123, using the PDF file page number box at top, and the Down Arrow.

[OR;
You can put your mouse cursor in the PDF file page number box.
The box to the Right of the Down Arrow.
Left-click one time. Anything in the box is now highlighted in Blue.
Type the page number you want.
Press the Enter key ]

ALL power is removed. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

Once you remove the two Philips head screws from the Harddrive Compartment Cover, and remove the cover; you are instructed to remove the harddrive, using the Mylar plastic 'tab'.

A Note of Caution!!
On the opposite side of the Mylar tab are the contact pins.
Pull the harddrive using the Mylar tab, to the Outside edge of the case. Still sitting FLAT.

Now ease the harddrive up at an angle, raising it up on the Mylar tab; BUT at a slight angle just enough so the harddrive clears the case, and you can pull it out.

IF, you lift the harddrive straight up, you will bend the contact pins, and believe me; you do Not want to do that.

Do you have the Restoration Disk, or a Full Installation disk of Windows?
I recommend getting the Restoration Disk, if you do not have the above.

In the US the disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.
Call 800-474-6836, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Have the Serial Number written down, to give to the nice representative.
This is on the Bottom of the laptop, in a white Service Tag.
S/N = Serial Number

For other countries use HP Support Worldwide, for the contact number,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/support.html

Has the basic Windows files.

You cannot fix it, you must replace it. Purchase a new hdd, using a cloning programme, copy the hard drive to the new hdd. Remove the old hdd and fit the new one.

Have replaced computer. Motherboard dead on old one. Is there any practical way I can get pictures and such from old computer. It will not power up. Thanks

You should be able to tak the hard drive out of the old one and put it in the new one as a secondary drive. There is a good chance, though, that the drive won't fit. If it doesn't, you'll need something like this.

How do you replace a hard drive in a HP Pavilion -Model 8674D?

The instructions for removing the back cover or front cover might be in the Owner's manual. You need to remove the access panel and once you remove it just uncrew the old hard drive and install the new one and recoonect the wires.

Install hard drive in hp a1310n

You need to do a number of things:

1) You need to carefully remove the door and the whole front face of the desktop (the front face opens like a door it swings open from left to right)

2) Once you have the front pannel open take a philips screwdriver and unscrew the memory card readers that is show in front of the deskop (there is one screw holding this card reader in place probably on the upper right hand corner.

3) Carefully remove the card reader by jiggiling it lightly till the unit comes off.

4) After you remove the card reader, you will immediatly see the hard drive directly behind the reader that you just removed.

5) Now look inside the desktop (because you removed the right hand side door: the big one that alows you to see inside the pc) and remove all cables from this hard drive before you read #6 below

6) Inside the desktop, Locate the hard drive, put your hand on the back of it and lift on the green plastic part along side the hard drive where you can see the harddrive screw which is on a metal track stopped by a green plastic stopper.

7) Lift the green plastic stopper and push the back of the hard drive to the front of the desktop.

8) Unscrew all screws from old hard drive and rescrew them on the new one in the exact same spots at the old hard drive.

9)Once you finish screwing on the screws, slide the new hard drive back from where the old one was

10) reconnect all data cables and power supply cable.

11) follow steps 7 thru 1 to put unit back together again. Go thru steps 7 thru one backwards

I hope this helps

HP Media Centre PC 7250 can I add a hard drive?

Here's a step by step guide for that HP 7250 model on HP's website about how to replace, or remove/add the Primary and Secondary Hard Drives (which pictures that help).

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00639696&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1118243&rule=29389&lang=en

If your computer did not come with a second hard drive, you can install a second hard drive that you attach to the bottom of the inside of the computer tower.

Transfer data from a dead laptop to a new laptop

Do you have a usb to SATA connector? If so you can plug the old drive into the USB slot and it will act as a slave so you can pull the contents from the old drive to the new. The adapter is about 25.00 or If it was me I would invest into a pocket USB hard drive case that you can put your old drive into perminatly so you can always have a external hard drive for back up later after yo uhave moved the data over and reformatted it. The case is $25-$40.00.
