It can be repaired, but would be expensive. You could google and find the service centre in Bangadesh. How did you manage to know that the CCD is damaged?

It probably has a battery that can't hold a charge to it and needs to be replaced. Those batteries can be purchased at Canon using this link:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=256&modelid=9823#SNAModelSuppliesAct

You might be able to find a less expensive one on EBay, Radio Shack, or Batteries +

I also have the same problem and I took it to the canon service center. They told me that I have to replace the whole lens kit the problem was with the shutter not closing properly thus overexposing the pictures

Many Canon Cameras that were made a couple of years ago have a faulty CCD chip. Canon will repair the problem at no charge regardless if the warranty is expired or not. They will even pay postage to ship it back. I had to send in both my PowerShot SD110 and my Powershot S500 it took about two weeks from the day i sent them in to the day they returned. They handled everything just as a good company should. Contact Canon through their website for more information. Good Luck!

Screen is always white. Will record picture, but plain white also

The image sensor (CCD) is dead. This is a known manufacturing problem and may be repaired at no charge, even though the warranty has expired. Here's a link to a detailed explanation; http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

Pink color background and on clothing in sunny shots using auto

That is typically a bad CCD sensor.

To start you can take out batteries for a couple of minutes , but I do not think that will solve the problem.

The CCD sensor is the optical device that captures light and generate the picture on a digital camera.

Whe it is faulty it must be replaced at a repair centre.

Canon covers the repair expenses for CCD sensor replacement , even when warranty is expired on several of their models.
Call manufacturer at the number listed on the user manual to get information, if your model is in Canon list you may have the repair done for free, otherwise get a quote on repair.

Canon Powershot sd30 Black screen

Then it sounds like there may be an error with your CCD (what comverts the light going into your camera into a digital picture, like digital film). even if your warranty is expired canon may still repair this for free. Contact canon at 1-800-OK-CANON and explain to them the problem and that you think the CCD may be defective.

Only for the brave, on a warrenty expired camera.

Buy a set of jeweller's screwdrivers.

Make sure it is off, with the lens retracted, and remove the battery and SD card.

Remove the 11 screws holding it together

The metal shell is in two halves that can be pulled apart. The rubber socket cover flap has to be removed once one half is off. A rubber gasket round the eypiece lens may drop off - it is easily replaced.

Hold the inner chassis by the edges.

The lcd screen is held by one screw, half hidden under the wiring to the flash - remove it.

Push the wiring to one side just sufficiently to enable you to hinge the lcd screen up on its flexible printed circuit wiring loom.

Underneath you will see the back of the ccd pod, with a flexibe printed circuit wiring loom pinioned under a metal plate with two Y shaped holes filled with brown gunk, and held down by a torex screw locked with some holt melt adhesive, and two further screws inaccessible under the metal chassis to the right.

I hypothesised these were the contacts that become detatched in hot conditions, and (1) tried to shift the flexible printed circuit minutely from side to side using the hole in it (it didn't move appreciably)and (2) pressed down quite hard in the centre of the metal plate, having supported the chassis from below so as not to damage the lens.

I reassembled the whole thing and it worked immediately, with just a faint light smear down the left hand side of the image (the whole image had been completely smeared, then dark, before) which was only noticeable when photographing in dark conditions.

So I took a gamble and it seems to have worked. If it hadn't I was going to break the glue seal on the Torex screw and unscrew and then screw it up again.

Obviously doing this is on your own responsibility.

Contact Canon. I had the same problem and eventhough it was outside of warranty they fixed it for free because they recognized this as one of their own problems with the camera. Unfortunately I have the problem again. So I am going to see if Canon will fix it again for me. Good luck!

No display symptom is due to ccd chip failure or a board problem. If it is still under repair warranty, ship it back ASAP. A damaged electronic component for this model may be replaced by a trained tech only. Good Luck.
