I have a kenmore elite washing machine model 110.24952301. Just the other day it stopped filling with water. It agitates and goes through the cycle normally but doesnt fill with water at all. I have checked the water level switch and it seems to operate ok. I dont think both water valves could fail at the same time. How do i fugure out what the cause of the problem is?

I installed the new atc circuit baoard and there was still no water pumped into the the washing machine, lol. It must the timer because the water pressure switch seems to operate ok. It is time to by a new washing machine. lol

I have replaced the atc board and the water level switch, or pressure switch and it is still not filling with water. What do i do next?

  • Anonymous Dec 17, 2012

I have tested the voltage to the water pressure switch while the washing machine is operating and there is no voltage at all. It has to be the timer or possibly the centrifugal switch.

I installed a new timer and it fixed the problem. the washing machine fills with water now.

You are correct. Both fill valves will not go out at the same time. Them problem is with the temperature control board. I change them all the time for this condition. Here is the part to order. To access the control board just remove the back of the console.

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite Model 110 washing machine will not stope the agitate cycle

If the washer fills but does not agitate or spin, this is usually a symptom of a bad lid switch. The switch will either be located on the right hand side of the washer tub opening, or in the rear on the left hand side under the console. If you have a right hand model, examine the lid and make sure the plunger that activates the switch when it is closed is still intact. The plunger is a plastic piece that is physically mounted on the lid. Sometimes they break off. If the plunger is intact, try taking a small object (like a screwdriver or popsicle stick and push down on the lid switch contact while the lid is open and the timer knob started. You should hear a distinctive "click" when you push on the switch and the washer will agitate. Sometimes the switch can become loose and no longer make good contact. If this is the case, simply tighten the two mounting screws on the tub opening. If the switch relay is not clicking you may need to replace it. The part runs about $35.

If you have the left hand style switch that is enclosed under the console, the contacts are closed by a small metal bar on the back of the lid. Sometimes this bar becomes bent or loose. Open and close the lid and listen for a distinctive "click". If you don't hear anything, you may need to adjust the metal bar, or replace the switch. This style of switch tends to cost a bit more.

If you can provide me with your model number (located under the wash lid along the tub opening), I can research the part number for you and let you know where you can get it and give you step-by-step instructions on how to replace it. This is a simple repair job that the average consumer can perform with simple instructions and a few household tools. First, determine if this is the cause of your problem. Post back with comments and let me know if this helps you.

SOURCE: kenmore top load (model # 110 82370120) drain problem

Good AM. I see here that you have a fairly old belt drive Kenmore washer. The real problem with these is that the parts for them are so very expensive anymore to get. A timer (which you may be needing) will run you around $100.00 to $175.00 depending on where you live. Very expensive repairs on these, but if you want to go for it, here are some hints to help. Sounds like you have one of three problems. First off PLEASE UNPLUG YOUR MACHINE BEFORE WORKING ON IT. Your timer may have lost or has a stuck contact inside (unrepairable in most cases) which is making it do something is shouldnt be doing in that area of the timer. This would probably be the most expensive of your repair. The next thing is it could be the water level switch could be going bad. This one is highly doubtful since it fills and stops filling, but I have heard (but never have seen) that they can short out sometimes and cause wacky operation. Both these issues can be fixed by remove the console rear panel and front knobs to remove both. The next item could be a defective wig-wag in the bottom of the unit. One of the positioning solinoids maybe going bad and sending bad signals back to the timer.

None of these problems are really hard to fix. And truthfully (even though some of these guys will be mad) you can sometimes find these parts on ebay for a halfway good price. Part numbers for each are:

Timer: 381860
Water Level Switch: 359712
Wig-Wag: 89814

Good luck with this one, and if you know how to use one, try to run resistance with an ohm-meter on your wig-wag to be sure your getting power flow through the soilnoids (you will have 2, be sure to unplug the solinoids before testing to be sure its a true test) before replacing.

try replacing your water selenoid coming in. remember it isnt a mechanical timer it is a computerized timer, so if the selenoid isnt the problem, it might be the computerized timer. computers are very finicky, pain in the a- -!

SOURCE: washing machine fills, but will not agitate, drain or spin

Coupling broken which joins the motor to the gear box. Look and see or listen if the motor is running then if nothing else is working coupling is broke, easy to replace.

KENMORE ELITE TOP LOAD

Washer stops, won't fill, rinse or agitate

• Check the following:
Is the power cord plugged into a grounded 3 prong outlet?
Is the indicator on the Cycle Control knob properly lined up
with a cycle? Turn the Cycle Control knob to the right slightly
and pull to start.
Are the water inlet valve screens clogged?
Are both the hot and cold water faucets turned on?
Is the water inlet hose kinked?

• Does the water level seem too low, or does the washer
appear to not fill completely? The top of the agitator is
much higher than the highest water level. This is normal and
necessary for clothes to move freely.
• Has a fuse blown or is the circuit breaker open? If problem
continues, call an electrician.
• Are you using an extension cord? Do not use an extension
cord.
• Is the washer in a normal pause in the cycle? The washer
pauses for about 2 minutes during certain cycles. Allow the
cycle to continue. Some cycles feature periods of agitation
and soak.
• Is the washer overloaded? Wash smaller loads.
• Is the lid open? The lid must be closed during operation.
Washer will not agitate or spin with the lid open.
