Re: ddr2 533 to ddr2 667 memory
There should be no problem because the new RAM speed is faster than your old RAM, but your system cannot make use of the extra speed unless you can change it in the BIOS setting. Your BIOS should be able to support 2.0Gb, but check your specification, go to the DELL WEB site if you don't have the specs.

Go to the Crucial Memory Website and run the memory scan tool online. It will tell you how much memory the system can use, how much is installed and in which slots and best of all, exactly what memory your system requires for an upgrade. There is lots of different memory to choose from and this takes the work out of it.
The only thing you could do is put in a 256MB module in the slot that you have access to. Only one socket is user upgradable. The second socket is only upgradable by a Dell service center. They would have to install a second 256 module to get you to the 512MB max.
Hi, You can have a maximum of 2GB in that laptop 1x1GB in each slot, the ram speed is PC3200, PC5300 is too fast so the bios will not recognize it as the maximum is only 400MHz, stick to the PC3200 for each stick. Ask for SODIMM DD2 SDRAM, PC3200 2x1GB, i also recommend Kingston as the ram manufacturer.
Verify on the label of the the memory Dimm that you installed that it is PC2700 SDRAM.
Memory Upgrade for Dell Inspiron 1200 Laptop, the Dell Inspiron 1200 Laptop takes the PC2700 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs. Memory Type, and comes installed with 256 MB (non-removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Dell Inspiron 1200 Laptop to up to a maximum of 1280 MB Memory, the system has 1 socket to install Memory, already with 256 MB (non-removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop. Standard Memory
256 MB (non-removable)
PC2700 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs.
