Question about Western Digital My Book World Edition 1TB Remote Access Storage System

Open Question

WD MyBook World Edition won't show up to map to drive

It will show up through my router's summary of the network but it will not show up so that I can map it. I've used it before without the Mionet software and would like to do it again. I'm running Vista 32 bit.

SOURCE: mionet application doesn't show files in subfolders of shared folders

I am having the same problem, but I have a solution. I don't know if its a permanent solution though. You have to setset mionet though the drive. Enter your drives ip address into your web browser and go to the mionet section. One option is to reset mionet. That has worked for me so far, but its useless if your not on your home network.

SOURCE: Can't map network drive WD Blue ring edition

The Failed Mount issue is usually caused by Internet Security settings. The most common way to resolve it is to add the following files/ports to the exceptions list of your firewall(s) -- in some cases you will need to add it to the Windows Firewall, even if you have another Firewall installed as well:

MioNet.exe (C:\Program Files\MioNet\jvm\bin\MioNet.exe)
MioNetManager.exe (C:\Program Files\MioNet\MioNetManager.exe)
ServiceStatusGui.exe (C:\Program Files\MioNet\ServiceStatusGui.exe)

These ports are also required for MioNet to create a drive-letter for remote drives:
TCP In/Out 443
TCP In/Out 445

Mapped nas, but there is no open option to access the

If you have mapped it, you should see the public share in my computer.

If you don't see it there, then try remapping it again, by doing the following:

Right click on my computer > select 'map network drive' > In the folder option type: \\**IP address or name of the drive as you see it network**\public > select 'finish'. If this is executed successfullymt he drive will appear in my computer with a drive letter (normally Z: - If you left this option as it was). It would be named either by it's IP address or the name, depending on which one you used to map it with.

Hope this helps!

WD mybook 1TB is gone from the network

Have you tried different cables or a different port on your router. Is there any way to get into the Hard Drive by connecting it directly to a PC and checking the network settings or anything..? If not, then you may have to connect it directly to a PC and share it to your other PC's.

Western Digital World Book 1TB - Lights don't light, HDD vibrates

I would try to connect the drive directly into an ide or a sata cable on the motherboard. Maybe using the western digital tools from their website you'll be able to access the data and copy it. I hope this helps you.

Cant able to access the 1tb network storage

Consider a few things that may solve the problem:
1. this is how I always like to test; shut down the NAS drive for a minute and reboot; once rebooted see if it is accessible
2. need to know the ip address of the NAS drive and make sure that ip is not blocked by your system firewall (e.g. add that ip into trusted address on the firewall program; or temporarily disable any anti-virus or firewall and see if you can access, and if you can then it is the issue of firewall),
3.unless you have customized the settings, open my computer and on the addressbar type type the ip address if you know (if it is WD Mybook World then you can also try typing \\mybookworld on the address bar); in this case also try it by temporarily disabling any anti-virus or firewall program
4. one way you can figure out the ip for your nas drive is through the router's homepage; since I don't know your router type I can't give you specific steps; but try to get onto the router's main page and see the client's list or DHCP Client's List or something similar where you should see an ip also assigned to the NAS drive which is connected to the same router.

Post the feedback what happens... we'll see... good luck !!!

MioNet does not see my WD MBWE (1T)

I do have a MBWE but have been using the explorer and not Mionet, so just a suggestion:
1. I would uninstall Mionet completely, restart the pc and then reinstall Mionet.
2. I would also try assigning a static IP for the MBWE; this can be set through your router's setup page;

If you're following anyone of these two and want to post response please do so, and good luck !!!

Problems with Western Digital My Book World Edition

I have the same drive. It works great with windows XP but with Windows vista has difficulty seeing this type of drive and keeping the connection once it is established. Take it back if you have windows vista and then search for which 1TB drives work well with windows vista. It really has problems with windows vista 64bit. I was able to finally see the drive when I was using photoshop file/browse/network... then I dragged the shortcut Icon to my desktop and access the drive that way from that point on. Mine stopped completely tonight... I think the power cord went bad or something.

Mionet application doesn't show files in subfolders of shared folders

I believe you have a choice of using either the web interface or the desktop version of Mionet when you are on the same network (LAN), and as you mentioned both of you have no problem when you are on the same network as the NAS drive (MBWE) is.

When you are out of the local network where your NAS drive is, the only choice you would have is the web interface of Mionet. Eventhough you may have installed the desktop version of Mionet tool on a remote PC, I don't think you can access through that desktop tool. Sorry !!!
