Re: ps3 internet connection
Hello. The modem doesn't matter if you have a router. Go into your internet browser (Explorer or Firefox) and type in 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and hit enter. This will open up the settings page for your router. Here is where you click on wireless settings and set up your security. Good luck and thank you!

Most gaming consoles do not work with modems if they are directly connected with them, you'll have to get a router and plug your gaming console into that. However, the experience with PS3s and modems depends on the ISP. I recommend calling your Internet Service Provider and asking them if their modems allow consoles to be played while directly hookup up to them.
If you are using a router, the problem probably has to do with the router. In order to find out, disconnect your PS3 from the router and plug it directly into you modem. If your modem is not near your playstation 3 then move it close to the PS3. The modem plugs directly into your cable line so there is a good chance that the television you play your PS3 on has a cable connection. One you have connected your PS3 to your modem, press the reset button on the modem. Turn your PS3 on and go directly to your network settings. Click on Internet Connection Test (do not bother trying to set up a connection manually) If you are getting a connection then you are ready to go.
A cable modem & a router are two different things. You can pick up a "Cisco 'EtherFast' cable/DSL" (wired or wireless) router at Wal Mart for $35. But you need both a modem & router to get your PS3 up & running on the web. Once you get on, you'll need to set up a "PlayStation" account. Unlike the Xbox 360 Live network, PlayStation is free of charge. It's a very user-friendly interface, so you shouldn't have any problems there. Cisco will give you live customer service to walk you through hooking up your router. Please let me know you make out. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know. Good luck, bro.
??? A router will NOT replace your modem; the router won't work without the modem. If you're going to give advice, please make sure it is somewhat correct.
Okay. So first you need the telephone cord to go from the phone jack into the DSL port on your modem. Then you need the Ethernet cable that came with your modem (looks like a phone cord but much bigger) to go from the ethernet port in the back of the modem into the wan or internet port on the router. Verify that the DSL and internet lights are on on the modem.
For the rest of the setup, watch this . It will walk you step by step in connecting your PS3 to the wireless internet. Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.
I once had the same problem. What i did is that i booted the modem and the Ps3 (turned both off) and then turned them on. Then i went to the internet settings on the Ps3 and tried the internet connection check and it worked! I hope you have some help of this.
