It depends where you are picking up the signal, most likely, the direction the antenna is , is where the strongest of signal's occur.

Wifi network not working in some rooms

Change the position of the WiFi router, because there are things like duct work, metal studs and electrical wiring concealed in the walls that can and will have an effect on WiFi signal strength.

Inconsistant wireless signal in house

Have you checked that the signal on your new cable modem/router is strong enough to reach your wireless devices? You may need to re-site the cable modem to get better coverage in your home. Your old one probably worked fine in the same position but that doesn't mean a new one will. There are a few things you can try to get the best of the range it has. Internal walls and furnishings all play a part in reducing the effective range of the router. Most routers will give you at least 50 metres indoors. Keep the router as high and as far away from walls as you can, this will greatly improve the range. Try to ensure the router is not screened by large near by metal objects such as steel PC cases, these will absorb wireless signals and reduce the range.

What is the best way to extend range of DIR 615 please? I have just changed from a Netgear Router which worked fine and gave a lot stronger signal throughout the house.

The only solution I know of is to have the router located clear of thick walls. Also, try to position the antennas different ways.

I use a D-Link Xtreme N Wifi router which is pretty good at penetrating walls and other barriers in my house.

Mine has 3 antennas on it. And, I use D-Link adapters on my laptop and other computers to get maximum compatibility.

I forgot my wirless sercurity password for the router

In order to resolve this issue you will need to Login to the router and change the security password that has been set up on the Router.

To do this, please perform the following steps:

Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the Belkin wireless router.
Launch your web browser on the computer.
In the address bar, type
Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit and you will be able to Login to the router.

Once you are logged in, please Click Security under Wireless menu.

On this page you will be able to change the Wireless password that has been set up on the Router and you will need to save the settings and reboot the Router for the changes to take effect.

This will resolve the issue you are facing.
If this doesn't work for you, please comment and let me know, and I will be more than happy to assist you to further resolve your issue.

I will look forward to your feedback and positive rating.

I just ordered a SR520W-ADSL-k9 Router. I am using SMB 2003 for DHCP now, I guess I should let the router handle DHCP, or Maby the router DHCP to my server and use a different subnet for the server DHCP. ...

if you want to SEE and use or share files it would be best to use the SAME subnet and DHCP, So one of those DHCP needs to be disabled. It would be best to use the Isp's modem built in DHCP but that is up to your on that.

let me know if you had additional questions.

please do leave positive feedback and ratings, Thanks

Router quite working. Wireless does not work nor

Follow this procedure :
  1. Turn off all components on your network - computer, router, modem, printers and any wifi laptops
  2. With the ethernet cable connected only between the modem and the router TURN THE POWER TO THE ROUTER ON and let it boot up.
  3. Turn on the modem and let it boot up to all lights on.
  4. Connect / boot up any and all other components on your network.
Keep this order handy in case of a power outage. Best of successes!

Can i run my xbox 360 with just an ethernet cable and no router.

If you're talking about hooking it up to, say, a computer, this would work. There is a feature in Windows known as "network bridges" that will forward all TCP/IP traffic from one interface to the other (for instance, from a wireless card to an ethernet port on that same machine). This effectively turns your computer into a router. I've done it several times when my 360 was too far away from my router and was too cheap to buy a wifi adapter :-P Best of luck!

Connecting WUSB100 to Wireless G WRT54G

laptops have a wide range reciever built around the screen and tend to be far better than a normal usb dongle.

The fact that your pc is downstairs will be effected a lot because the signals from the router will be bouncing around in an area around the antenna and above, signals below will be effected by floors, doors and wall partitions.

Your best solution would be to place the router on a phone line downstairs and see if the signal is increased.

Very poor wireless range

Hello Wee Mich

You can check the documentation for your router HERE and see if there're any settings you can change.

Is there a lot of brick, concrete or metal in the walls of your home?

Have you tried using wireless repeaters?

They can improve things considerably under the right conditions.

The real issue is wireless radios work best LOS (line of site). So, even having a powerful antenna may not do much good if it can't get through the structures in your home.

Upgrading your wireless equipment, strategically locating your router, upgrading your devices' wireless antenae and using repeaters to effectively send signals 'round cornes can help a great deal.

Below are some common tips for improving your wireless network's performance.
