Horizontal hold needs an ajustment

Hello
Horizontal rolling is your problem I thinks. In modern TVs there is no horizontal hold control like they wer in old one. All the adjustments are digital, that is related to a very accurate crystal oscillator frequency, and its cound downs. Therefore if your TV is not so old, its main Ic may be faulty, or horizontal synchronisation pulse does not reach the appropriate pin of that Ic. First check it, and if it is ok, replace the Ic.

Tv not showing a picture

Hello e26pitts,

If the line is horizontal then it could be a problem in your vertical deflection section, if the line is vertical then the problem is in your horizontal deflection section. Now for a little more detail.

If Horizontal line is present the vertical section of the yoke transformer is nit responding to current flowing through it due to being open, or the vertical coupling capacitor is open, or even the vertical drive transistor might be defective.

If Vertical line is present the horizontal section of the yoke transformer might be bad. Now this gets kind is easy in a way, because the yoke would be the sole cause of your problem here (maybe there is some circuitry doing some horizontal coupling check that to) because the horizontal section controls other functions that would also respond if this were a horizontal drive issue. In any event these problems should be checked by a qualified TV technician, I would suggest that you take the TV to a repair shop to have it worked on.

I hope this helps
Thank you,

Horizontal Lines On Screen

horizontal lines = horizontal sync off . mitsbishi always seemed to have this problem .. on the older sets I would take the back off and inside deep on the board i would adjust a pot and sync it right .... and never had a recall, maybe your newer model has this too .. this little control,

but its a horizontal sync problem.

if no change the horizontal processing ic.

HORIZONTAL HOLD

Hello INDIII,

The answer is yes, if all you have to do is to adjust the horizontal hold control (usually located on the back of the TV)

The answer is no (with caveat) if you have to open up the set. This problem occurs when the horizontal oscillator is drifting off its set frequency of 15,750 Hz This can be caused by a component or components changing in value, or the problem could be caused by the loss of or decrease in the amplitude of the horizontal sync pluses within the video signal. Such a loss of amplitude can take place from the output of the Video detector to the Horizontal mixer stage (uses the Video pluses and the Horizontal oscillator to sync the picture). This means that you will be working around a hazardous section of your TV.

The caveat is if you have a background in electronics and you have the proper equipment.
1) schematic diagram of the TV to see where TV test-points are
2) multimeter to measure DC voltages at test points
3) oscilloscope to view waveform patterns in the horzontal section of the TV
4) Signal generator to produce a know good signal into the TV set.
5) Isolation Transformer to connect the TV power plug to to isolate the Tv ground from earth ground and allow proper connectivity for test equipment (plug the unit under test into the isolation transformer and the test equipment into the wall outlet.)

I hope this answers your question,
Thank you,

Picture has a horizontal row

this symptom is caused by a trouble in the integrated circuit of in the vertical oscillator circuit. try to look if your tv has a vertical hold control at the back or inside, if it does not have, u have a problem in the vertical oscillator circuit. by the way, its not the horizontal that u should concentrate into, its the vertical. coz this is a vertical sync problem.
