Another Laptop Power Problem! Or Board? Or Fuse? 0_0

Hello Hello! After searching the Internet for these kind of problem(s) I came across A LOT of fixes. Nothing worked yet. 1.History 2.Problems occur under different circumstances and progress so far 3.Some thoughts and some questions I have 1.History: After carrying the laptop in a bag while traveling, the laptop suddenly went off while working with power point. Like you would have unplugged to power while working without battery. No lights, no reaction. Seamed like some fuse burned. But laptop seamed perfectly tempered. Not hot at all. 2.Problems occur under different circumstances The problem could be reproduced by giving the laptop a small hit on the side or top. After a complete disassembling, cleaning, and assembling the "hit-trick" wouldn't work anymore, but the problem still exists. But occurs more randomly. a.)Battery powered: While using the battery, the laptop goes black after several minutes (or small hit) and the fuse seams to blow. So you have to remove the battery, hold power down, wait a little and after some time it will be bootable again. Power-LEDs working again. b.)Without battery: Same thing, but the fuse, or what so ever, did not blow. It turns black but the power LED is still working and it is ready to boot again immediately. Thirst thought: Heat. Though I cleaned the fan and the fan was properly working, it seamed to be the most reasonable problem. So I checked the temperature. I opened some HD-Vids and other Programs to get the machine going aaaaand boom... Black. CPU about 39C (102.2 F) and GPU 50C (122 F). Temperature seams okay, doesn't it. 3. Some thoughts & questions: Because I did not have the fuse problem on using the power plug without the battery, I assumed there might me something wrong with the battery. (Haven't checked the power yet) BUT it still occurs on using the power plug. All though the temp. seams fine, it might be a heating problem. Also I have not checked the power jack and input voltage on the board. And a memtest did not found an error either. What do you think? Is it a problem with the temp.? The board? The power? Or other parts? Some semi-loose connections. harddrive, dvd-rom etc. And what kind behavior leads the laptop to do a some kind of emergency shut down? Thank you so much for reading this! Help would be awesome. Otherwise I would have to send the laptop in and I don't have the money right now ;)

Probably GPU or the voltin section in the motherboard. Powerjack short or bad battery. try without battery. Inside the laptop there is all sensitive parts and could get easily damaged. This problem needs some close attention with thorough knowledge in motherboard chip level service.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: Laptop won't boot up

1 suggestion.

Inside your laptop is a processor. The Cooling Fan, and Air Intake Duct you mentioned, are part of the cooling system. The main job for the cooling system, is to keep the processor at a reasonable operating temperature.

When a processor becomes too hot it turns off. (Actually BIOS turns it off)

With the amount of foreign debris you mentioned, (Dust/Dirt/Hair/Carpet Deodorizer/Food Crumbs/Lint, are a few examples of foreign debris), the Cooling Tube may be clogged.
Just using a can of compressed air for computers, in the Air Intake Duct, (DO NOT blow into the Exhaust Duct!), may not be enough.

Generally the Cooling Tube is about the width of your finger, and the height is half the thickness of a finger. Pretty small tube, and easily clogged. Also the Heatsink at the end of the cooling tube, can become clogged.

Laptops have a poor cooling design anyway. Everything is crammed into one tiny box. They use a small fan to cool them, and the Air Intake Duct is typically located on the bottom. (Some are on the side) This is a good (?) area to inhale readily available foreign debris.

On the link below the last photo on the page, shows an average Cooling Tube that is attached to a Heatsink.
http://www.insidemylaptop.com/clean-cooling-module-acer-aspire-3620/

This requires opening the laptop, and physically removing the foreign debris. Typical method is a combination of Q-tips, and Isopropyl Alcohol, plus a can of compressed air.
(AC adapter {Charger} removed, battery removed. Use an ESD wrist strap, and connect it's alligator clip to a good ground)

By the way. You DID have the AC adapter, (Charger), disconnected, and battery out, when you used the can of compressed air, right?

How to check door switch for being bad

Hello Don;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You need to purchase a multi-meter. This is a tool that will save you a lot of money in your self repair off all of your appliances. They Cost $20-25.00.

The two primary reasons your dishwasher may not start is your Bi-Metl thermal fuse and the door switch.

1.) Bi-Metl Thermal Fuse:
This is a thermal safety device that installs in the console. When the temperature inside the dishwasher gets too high, the bi-metal fuse burns out and breaks the circuit that allows electricity to flow to and from the main electric control board.
25344427-iz425fqh2xhxqmgetbjmjp4l-5-0.jpg
Substitution Part Number: W10258275 - Cost: $25.00
It is located next to your control board. Caution: Before touching you control board ground your self by rubbing your hands on bare metal. Static electricity will knock out a board.

a.) Turn power off at the breaker box.
b.) Disassembly the control panel to access the thermal fuse.
c.) Disconnect the two leads from the thermal fuse.
d.) With your multi-meter set on the lowest Ohms (Omega Symbol), put one meter lead on each contact.
e.) If your get a reading other than, '0' then the thermal fuse is bad.

2.) Door Switch:
This is located in you door handle assembly.
25344427-iz425fqh2xhxqmgetbjmjp4l-5-3.jpg
a.) Lift the switch off the two retaining pins.
b.) Disconnect the two contact wires.
c.) Using your multi-meter the same as above - hold the switch button in with the two meter leads on each contact. Here, you also are looking for '0' Ohms if the contact switch is good.

Please tell me were the fuse is.

Hello,

The fuse can be located on the power supply board. To locate the power supply board, trace the microwave wire back into the microwave. The area where the microwave wire is soldered inside the TV is the power supply board. There is fuse on the board. So this means you have to disassemble the microwave....

Note that microwave store a lot of current, so unplug it and wait for about 30mins before your attempt disassembling it.

Regards.

Tried to run dishwasher but it wouldn't turn on -

If you have no power and no lights at all,you may have blown the fuse. There is a non-resettable fuse in the top right corner of the control board.Remove the 6 screws across the top of the console panel to access the board and fuse.
You can check the fuse for continuity with a meter set for ohms or continuity. Al;so check the door switch below the open/close lever for continuity.Check incoming power under the dishwasher were the incoming power wires connect.

Hello I have a subwoofer and the fuse blew out. I replaced it with the same kind, but its still not working. The power light is on. When I turn it on it doesn't make that first thump sound. is it fixable?

It is very much fixable. Check if the fuse has blown again. And if it has, there is some problem with the circuit. Check conitunity across the main filter capacitor. If it's short, disconnect amplifier IC's power lines and check across the pins if it's short. In case it's short, you will need to replace the IC. But before replacing check all the rectifier diodes.

Portable DVD blowing fuses

Thankyou,

Hello, the fuse poping is definitely as you say, please let me give you some more insights of my idea. The fuse is poping because there is a by ~ pass, most likely before its power board, that by ~ pass also causes a shorting most likely in the cigarettes lighter wiring. That is why even if you turn it off, it still shorts, Try to see exactly what went out of place to give a better understanding of the error in the circuitry, once that has been archieved, you may kindly contact manufacturer/dealer for layout of the wiring and rectify the shorting. The shorting is delivering way too much power because of the by ~ pass that over rate the fuse rating. Or try a much higher fuse rating.
Thankyou, :)

If the adapter is working, the problem could be the jack on the back of the notebook. The nice thing is most of the Vaio notebooks the jack is replaceable without having to solder the jack to the board. I would call SONY regarding the jack for a mode number and a picture. it's easily replaceable but requires the disassembly of the notebook.

You may be able to fix it yourself. Search this forum or my profile for a more detailed solution to the same question worded differently, it is the one will a lot of photos. Try shorting across this fuse protector IP1280 (looks like a resistor) on the power board. See more detailed solution I posted in this forum for a similar question.4a63623.jpg
