Either the belt is slipping for the brush( a look where it connects to roller or spindle that drives it will show black residue in excess. It is also possible to be at the motor itself which is less common as most units if get that hot at the motor will trip a thermal breaker in the unit.

Burning smell Kenmore 50558

If the burning smell is an electrical smell it could be motor or wiring problems which are best handled by a professional. If it smells like burning rubber it is probably the belt. If it smells like burnt wood it could be the belt slipping on the brush roll, if the brush roll is made of wood. Dust and debris can also accumulate behind the end caps of the brush roll causing friction which can cause a burning wood smell.

Work well but smell like a burning belt

If it smells like burning rubber, the belt is probably worn and slipping. If it's another burning smell, your motor windings are probably shorting and will burn out soon

Vacuum smells like something is burning

Ok...Check the brush roll is free not sticky..Next is the belt okay, not jamming on the brush roll making the burning smell...You could take off the roll and run motor on its own ..finding out if its the motor..

My vacuum cleaner is giving off a burning smell.

if its a rubber burning smell check the belt and the brushroll. if its an electrical burning smell then dont use it. the motor is overheating and will eventually get hot enough to catch fire.

Burning rubber smell when the vacuum is on.

Hoover mach 4 burning smell

There are two reason you could be smelling a burning smell-
1. The belt is too stretched out and needs to be replaced. This causes it to slip when the vacuum is on and will create that type smell. You can avoid stretching and having to replace the belt to often by releasing the belt after each vacuum.

2. There may be hair or other debris stuck around the rod that the belt is attached to. Can be avoided by checking after vacuuming.

Hope this helps

Try replacing the belt. My vacuum cleaner had the same problem and once the belt was changed the burning smell was gone.

My bissel 7901 won't spray water out of the bottom or hose to clean the carpet. I did smell a burning smell and shut it off. Is the pump gone?

Depends, if the the smell was like rubber, then it may be the pump belt. If it is ok, then the pump could be bad, altho the pump wouldn't have had a burning smell. The main motor would if it was an electrical smell.
