For this kind of issue, please follow up the following steps to check:

1.confirm the battery and ac adapter connect the laptop normally.Maybe the bad connect lead to this problem. If there are no lights when you turn on laptop, one of possible reason is that your adapter is malfunction.

2.the second possible cause is laptop dc jack failure. If the dc jack is broken or loose, you are required to replace it or repair it.

3.Another possible reason is that there is something wrong with laptop motherboard. For this situation, it includs two kinds of possibility,a failure in an electronic circuit and BGA malfunction.

For more detailed reasons and solutions, please have a look at the following article:http://www.ifitjams.com/lappower.htm

If you verify your laptop adapter is dead and you plan to order a new one, I recommend one for you on the basis of your laptop model:

Can a hp pavilion dv5-1127cl power port work in a

Hi there
I think in this particular case it might not be wise. The power blocks for these two appear to be different wattages (65 & 90 respectively) and also the connector to the laptop does not look to be the same, in which case damage to the power inlet socket of one or the other laptop could occur if you tried to fit it too energetically. I did find this eBay seller who gave quite a list of compatible laptop models for the power supply he was selling, but although the DV7 series is there, the DV8 series isn't.
AC Adapter Charger for HP Pavilion DV5 1127CL DV5 1128CA Power Supply
I think you would be better to get a power supply that exactly matches to prevent potential future problems.
Perhaps not the advice you were hoping for, but I would get a new one for whichever machine you need it for, and make sure that compatibility with your machine is specifically stated.
Cheers

Hp pavillion dv8 wifi control problem

do you mean it disconnects or it actually turns off. if it turns off, it's probably a problem with the card. if it disconnects it may be an issue with the access point.

HP Pavilion dv8 not starting up

Ya know........Pavilion dv8 is a Series of Notebook PC's.

Encompasses a LOT of models in the series.

Have no idea of which LED in front you are referring to.

Do know;

1) Test the AC adapter (Charger) with an economical multimeter.
Average cost is $5 to $12.
Set to DC Voltage, and check the output voltage of the AC adapter.

As far as I can tell the DV8 series uses 18.5 to 19 Volts. (DC)
Use an AC adapter that is rated at 90 Watts, NOT 65 Watts; if using a replacement AC adapter.

The port on the laptop that the AC adapter plugs into is a DC Power Jack. (DC_IN)
The plug end on the power cable from the AC adapter, and plugs into the DC Power Jack, has a Center Hole, and an outside cylindrical metal shell.

The Center Hole is the Positive connection. This is where the Positive (Red) probe lead of the multimeter goes.
The outside cylindrical metal shell is the Negative connection. This is where the Negative (Black) probe lead of the multimeter touches.

Also have an assistant gently wiggle the power cord TO AC adapter; and power cable FROM AC adapter to laptop.
Intermittent reading indicates a broken wire, or wires.

DC Power Jack LED lights up? Means nothing to me. I want to know the FULL DC Voltage is getting TO the laptop, and there are no breaks in the wires of the power cable, or power cord of AC adapter.

THEN AC adapter checks out.

2) AC adapter checks out?
What condition is the DC Power Jack in?
Battery removed, use the eraser end of a No.2 pencil, and GENTLY see if you can wiggle the Center Pin around.

ANY perceptible movement of the Center Pin, means replacement of the DC Power Jack.
Fortunately for this series the DC Power Jack is connected to a cable with wires, and they end in a plug connector. Which plugs into the motherboard.
It is now a DC Power Harness.

HP calls it a Power Connector Cable.

http://www.amazon.com/PAVILION-Series-DC-IN-POWER-HARNESS/dp/B005WMWMMU

3) Next in line are the Power MOSFET's, in the power circuit section, on the motherboard.

!O_O!

MOSFET;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOSFET

Power MOSFET;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_MOSFET

Should be on the motherboard, near where the Power Connector Cable plugs in.
Rectangular shaped with 8 'legs'. ('Legs' are J-Leads)

Believe one or more to be the problem.
Typed the rest above because it is a power flowchart, and when diagnosing always go through the steps.
Would s-uck to replace a motherboard, when the problem was an AC adapter, it's power cord, or the DC Power Harness.

This is more on the subject, by using the HP pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's; as examples,

http://mayohardware.blogspot.com/2010/04/important-parts-on-dv6000-and-dv9000.html

Further this is to show the availability of the Fairchild Semiconductor - FDS6679 - Power MOSFET, and Alpha & Omega Semiconductor - AO4407 - Power MOSFET,

Scroll down.

http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=AO4407

AO4407 has been phased out. Let's look at one of the cross-reference examples given,

That is correct. $1.01 USD for a FDS6679, and 78 cents for a substitute AO4407.

Also check the MLCC's (They are also SMD. Surface Mount Device)
Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor

Here are examples. Not correct values, Capacitance, (MicroFarad's), and Voltage,

These will be close to the Power MOSFET's.
See if any are burned, or blistered.

Sounds light a power switch short, but lets try to take the memory out of the laptop and power on the laptop. Does it boot up? if so lets try 1 memory stick at a time.

My HP Pavilion Dv6700 turns on but nothing on the screen as in its black, BIOS do not show. Please help!

Looks like the post itself fails on the system from what you have told here. Its easy to reset the bios. Download the actual bios flash program on a completely formated usb drive. Fix the usb on your laptop and keep fn+esc keys pressed and switch on the laptop. It will rewrite the bios and once rebooted the system should work. Good Luck.

Did it download as a .zip(compressed) file? If so, you will have to uncompress;unzip; or extract the file before it will work...you should get a prompt asking if you want to run, ect.
