Insignia IS-LCDTV26 Function Buttons In-operative

Hi Bill -
I see you have some experience with Insignia LCD TV's.. I'm reading your reply's to questions here... I don't see my specific problem posted yet.

This TV went back to Best Buy once within it's warranty period for the same problem, they returned it in working order. A year or so later, after the warranty was over the same problem came back. My wife has this great ability to confuse electronics by pressing every button at the same time, tihs is what killed it the first time, and now the same cause with the same problem... no buttons function except for the on/off button.

One guy said "simple repair, there's a fuse blown" well I looked all over and can't find a fuse in there anywhere. I suspect the first repair was just parts swapping because many screws are damaged or missing inside.

Any clue you can give me, or recommendations for a quality repair shop would be appreciated..

Thanks and best regards,
Steven

    Hello Bill -

Thanks for the quick reply.. I do have picture and sound, thanks to the gods it was in Video-in mode when it was 'frozen', with the volume set somewhat audible.

All buttons and remote are disabled, I tried all sorts of different combinations hoping to ramdomly select something that made a difference, nothing. Because these is no menu's (no buttons work), I can't see the child-lock modes either.

Someone also mentioned a 'reset button' located somewhere inside, I looked all over for that too. there is none that I could find. It seems to me that some firmware was confused of corrupted, but if the child lockout has this behavior too, that's indeed possible.

The photos I took are >> here << they only show that fact that I was searching for a reset button. I was using them to ask the other posted to point out where that button was, he never came back to that posting session.

Yes, I can unplug it any time, for all lengths of time.. and when I restore the power.. even 24 hours later I get the same symptom, only the on/off button works, no other buttons and no remote. I do get picture (thank god I can control what goes into VideoOne) and sound, but no controls.

Thanks for taking the time for this.

    Steven

So, For anybody who doesn't know yet, you do not need the factory remote to restore button functions to your Insignia IS-LCDTV26. All you need to do is program a universal remote that can power on and off the TV, then

"**press the "MUTE" Button 10 times successively**"

and Voila! Unlocked, you should see the status appear in the corner of the TV if everything worked, if not try another tv code or try the manual search function on the remote to find another compatible code set.

The "**press the "MUTE" Button 10 times successively**", worked!! Great job timyorba!

BTW, I used an "allinone" remote with code 0150 (mitsubishi?!).

Thanks!!

Steven,
I will assume since you looked in the back you had it unplugged for some time and that didn't reset the unit, that would have been my first suggestion... A fuse would not be your problem and in any event a fuse is NEVER a cause only another symptom.
So, let me ask, when you power the unit do you get full audio and picture? Do the controls on the Tv itself function whatsoever? Is it at all possible to get to the menu? If you can somehow try and see if the child lock has somehow been set. The backdoor code to unlock it is 1-2-3-4... Let me know at your earliest.

Insignia LCDTV26 black box reset

It is either the PIP (picture in picture) feature or more likely the TEXT feature in the closed caption area in the menu is engaged.

This feature can be in the set or in some cases in the cable or sat box if being used--may need to look at both places.

Lost remote want to get to input channels using side buttons on TV

Try using the manual buttons and keep pressing channel down until you see the lowest station you receive, then go slowly.
Maybe Insignia put the inputs into the channel search automatically.

We need a large display Simple to use remote for insignia lcdtv 26in. Of course the code for the tv is needed.

Go out and buy her one of those super cheap Universal Remotes. They cost less than $10 and work great (if you get a decent one) for just about any TV & LCD TV. And the cheap ones generally don't have all those crazy menu option buttons all over them. There's one I saw at Lowes that looks a lot like a flip-up cell phone. The basic buttons are on the outside and the "extra" buttons are on the inside. I learned just recently that to program an Insignia LCDTV to a Universal Remote you use the Mitsubishi Code.
