Click on this link and download the appropriate driver for your machine. You may have to go back and put in your serial no. for the correct driver. But scroll down until you see the cd/rw drivers and download and install the one that applies to your machine. This should solve your problem

MY , CD/DVD LAPTOP DRIVER DOESN'T WORK. IT CAN

goto run and type "compmgmt.msc"(without quotes) and select disc management if the dvd drive is showing below the hard disks means your dvd drive is working fine only thing you have to do is to right click on the CD-Rom 0 and change drive letter and paths to it
.if the CD ROM option is not seen in disk management then you have to go to the device manager option under computer management and expand cd/dvd -rom drives and you will find your dvd drive model if not that means that your dvd drive has got hardware problem

go to support.dell.com and download the modem driver to an external media (cd, thumb drive, etc.).
then right click 'my computer' and go to properties then device manager. you should be able to go to the modem and update the driver from a specific location and then point it to the external media you have downloaded the driver to.

HELP - think my dvd/cd drive is corrupted

The link below will take you to the Dell download site for the Inspiron 1501. You can download all of the drivers from there.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_1501&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Download the BIOS flash and run it first. Next go to the Device Manager and uninstall the CD-ROM device. Run the driver for the CD to re-install it. Install any other device drivers that you downloaded. When you have them all installed, restart the laptop.

Good luck and please let me know how it works out for you. Especially if you need further assistance.

Cd/dvd rom not working

go into device manager and see if your drive is listed or has an exclamation point beside it.if you dont know how to open device manger go to start menu and click help and search device manager.if there is an exclamation point ! click it and it will tell you the problem.you may need to download a new driver or reinstall the old driver. the only other possibility is the drive is dead :(

Cd rom problems

I just replaced the CD drive in my 2200, the eye went out. You can check to see if it's the drive or drivers by uninstalling the drivers from the device manager, then reboot. It will find the drive and reinstall the drivers. If this doesn't fix it, then the drive is bad. The drivers for optical drives are very simlpe, some times they will glitch and need to be reinstalled, but most of the time it's the drive that has gone out.
