Possible interruption to customer load due to Photo Flashes. While testing a new service, we hope to be offering soon, the Dallas based engineering department has discovered that the use of a flash camera in or around the UPS may cause a fault in the unit that could result in the loss of power to the critical load. We have noticed two different scenarios: 1. While taking a picture of the inside of a running unit in the test lab, the flash affected the firmware,
resulting in a lock up. The unit did not transfer, it just shut off! 2. At an actual customer site, prior to doing a PM on a number of units, we wanted to test the new Thermal cam. Part of the test involves taking a digital photo. Upon turning the digital camera on while standing next to a UPS, the RF of the flash charge circuit was enough to interrupt the inverter drives. Fortunately, the unit did successfully transfer to bypass, but only after the loss of a few fuses.
