Question about Toshiba 42H81 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Blinking red power indicator light

I have a Toshiba 42H81 that has the power indicator light blinking and the TV will not turn on. The TV was on when I was pushing it back into place because I was just rearranging the cables to the satellite TV when it just turned off and did not turn back on. I read in one of the other posts that it could be a fuse. Where is the fuse you'all are talking about? Is it the little clear glass fuse near the power cord on the board near the back of the unit? If that is the one, my problem is not that fuse because that one is not blown, or it appears to not be blown. Any healp would be greatly appreciated--JROD

    Bill-thanks for the timely response!!!but.....could you point me in the general direction of the fuses? Do they look like everyday run of the mill fuses? How do I find where they are? Do I have to remove any components to get at them? Will I be OK rummaging around the guts of my TV without fear of lighting up like a christmas tree? At what point should I call a professional and how much (ballpark) would it cost?

Pushing it back in place went it went out tells me that the problem is probably a poor solder connection. That arcing probably took out one of the fuses, but a fuse is NEVER the cause merely a symptom. I would begin by examining the black wire that feeds the +16v to the convergence IC's on the main board. The convergence circuit is the most thermal circuit in that unit. Next check for any jumpers and other component joints that appear to be ring cracked. Even the convergence amps themselves. Then check for open fuses after you've made a good inspection. Check for fuses: F850 & F851 5amp, F470 2amp, and F890 3.15amp and one of these are likely open. But if you replace them without correcting the problem that cause them to open it will simply happen again.. Good Luck Bill

This appears to be a duplicate post - - and I'm not sure which one you'll check for an answer so here goes: Pushing it back in place went it went out tells me that the problem is probably a poor solder connection. The blinking red light is a standby indicator. Make sure your remote is set to "tv" and not "cable" or "auxiliary".

My Toshiba 42H81 has no picture and has a red blinking light by the power button. Still have the audio from my Tivo coming in but no picture!

If it shuts off and then the power light starts blinking red or if it never gets picture and the power light blinks red constantly that is usually indicative of the convergence ICs (STK 392-110). You never want to replace the ICs without also replacing the resistors that are associated with them. There are usually 6 resistors, one for each of the colors and there corresponding direction, IE Red horizontal, red vertical, blue horizontal, ect. You will find them right where the STK 392-110 ICs are. Right in front of them. You can get the parts from www.bdent.com They carry the ICs and the resistors. If you do not feel comfortable completing this repair I could do it for you if you send me the board. My email address is: missionelectronics@sbcglobal.net Cost = 375.00 and that includes all parts.
Good Luck.

TV turns off and power light blinks unpluged andd still does it.

Likely to be the STK convergence chips causing a protection circuit to switch the TV off. Have you got any onscreen convergence problems (i.e, colour fringes)?

My Toshiba Rear projection TV Has A blinking power light

The power supply is in protect mode. There is most likely a short on one of the boards, or the high voltage generator, or a scan amplifier, or the power supply itself has a failure. Without troubleshooting the set it is impossible to know.

Replace the convergence amps and check the return resistors in path to the yoke from that circuit.

Good Day,lizbg;
Check the solder connections at the negative side of both C809 and C810. Resolder if necessary. This a common problem with model.

Toshiba 42H81 Blinking on and off light

Very common problems with this TV set. Toshiba even has a technical bulliten on this and several other models of tV set. The negitve terminal of C809 and C810 need to be soldered, as there are no eyeletes in the printed circuit board. This problem could also take out the fuse, F860. Replace if necassary. Good Luck
