SOURCE: Samsung SMH 8165 ST E13 Error message. Oven

I own the same Microwave and it just gave me the same error code E-13. I was heating a large plastic coffee mug of cold water using the "beverage" control. The only thing out of the ordinary was I used very cold water from the Fridge. Maybe this had something to do with the Max time error. Hopefully this was a one off error.

SOURCE: Amana microwave model AMC2206BA flashed

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

The E13 code is saying the microwave did not heat properly during the alloted time.

Heating problems are usually the result of any of the following"
1. Capacitor leakage
2. High Voltage Diode weak open or shorting with heat / use.
3. Power transformer voltage dropping due to wire terminal problems or shorts in the transformer.
4. Magnetron oscillator intermittently sticking. This oscillator is a metal tube with a floating wafer inside and if the metal wafer sticks the RF generated drops off to nothing. If it is restricted the RF output is intermittent. Either of the above is cause for Magnetron replacement.
5. Many units have a transformer temp sensor / thermostat that will shut the unit off.
From reading your symptom this is most likely what is happening with your unit. To trouble shoot this sensor it must be checked with a meter when the unit shuts off. If it is OPEN then this is what is causing the unit to shut down. The temp sensor on this unit is well hidden under the top tray on the AIR duct that is very tedious to get to. (Erector set time for access!)
a. Here lies the dilema what caused it to heat up....? Diode? Cooling fan inoperable? Capacitor? Malfunctioning Magnetron? You need to make sure the cooling fan is working and running at full speed. If the fan is not running it will cause the temp sensor to cycle. If the fan is running at full speed then we are back to square one and have to verify the diode, and capacitor are funtioning properly.

At this time I think you just have an air-flow problem that needs to be checked out. Make sure any vents are free of obstructions and that the fan works normally. The fan blade can spin on the motor shaft and not run at full speed or the fan motor bearings can be dry causing it to run slow ir not at all.

The other component that can cause this is the smart board. (PCB)

Before you do anything further unplug the unit for over a minute which will clear the E-13 code and then re-test. If your sure it is always failing when popcorn function is selected it may very well be the smart board. Instead of cooking popcorn use 2 large coffee cups of water for testing.
SET CLOCK before testing.

This is what the service manual number 16027303
says about an E13 code:

E13 T1 Max time error (oven did not preheat properly). REASON = PCB assembly.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

SOURCE: Need an installation manual for a Samsung SMH1816S

Gary Find a similiar model online and see if you can download a manual. I am installing the same microwave and lost my manual but remembered enough about it to install without a vent. I have have the templates which help but are not as critical as you might think - if you are not venting.

Unless there is grease, moisture, or some other foreign material deposits on your control circuit board, "SE" means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

there's a ghost in your microwave, call ghost buster. Seriously, the problem is the control panel. (((((the microwave oven can store thousands of volts of electricity in its high voltage capacitor, even after the microwave oven has been unplugged. That's more than 30 wall outlets combined.
Replacing electronic parts in a microwave oven can be extremely dangerous.))))))) tank you

Samsung Microwaves SMH1816S shocs ONLY with microwaves (not with fan or light)

I think you have a hot chassis for the Microwave, maybe a wire not grounded correctly inside the unit, Any shop can test for AC leakage to the metal on the cabinet itself, some states require a safety leakage test if a unit is repaired.

Not exactly a safe situation, a little water and some one could get killed. Also have the electric checked out as the issue could be there.
