Re: audio problelms

The R8500 have a power inverter style supply circuit. It use special capacitors. I remember a similar problepm with one of the "silver capacitors" in the inverter. - Phillip ZS6PVT

As far as i can tell, there is no RESET sequence for your scanner. It's possible though, that you have inadvertently activated the keyboard lock function. If "K/L" appears on the scanner display, press and hold the "LOCK" key until K/L disappears. This will restore the keyboard to normal operation.

I have a uniden bc72xlt hand scanner and after it is on for a short time it stops on found and then found disappears but you have to push scan, it does not resume scanning on its own

It sounds like you are in signal stalker mode. In this mode, the radio automatically tunes to the closest signal. If you are in this mode, you will see what looks like a "C" with a circle around it, with what looks like the outer edges of a + sign behind it. Press "function" and "hold" repeatedly until this icon disappears from the screen.

For more information, you can download the complete operators manual from Uniden. The link is:

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Threre is a key in theupper left that i can't get rid of and can't get to another scanning mode Scanner 82 from radio shack

Press and hold the bottom left key (looks like a light bulb with a key above it) until the key on the screen disappears. That will release the safety lock and restore the scanner's normal functions. Need the manual for your scanner? You can download/print it here:

The first thing i would check is if the "Priority" function is on. If "Priority is on it will skip everytime it takes a look at the priority frequncy.

Here are the instructions for turning on and off the priority feature.

To turn on the priority feature, press Func + Pri
during scanning. PRI appears. Then the scanner
checks the designated priority channel every
2 seconds in each bank.
To turn off the priority feature, press Func + Pri. PRI

Programming error BCT8 Uniden

Back to answer my own question.
I just found the problem. If you try to program one of these scanners (Uniden BCT8) and you keep getting a "pr9-loc" message every time you try to enter a frequency and "M-LOCK" is showing in the upper right corner of the display press and hold the M-Lock (E) key until it beeps twice and "M-LOCK" disappears from the display. You're now set to program.
