The rear spider shaft has broken it can be repaired. but I'm not 100% on lg units a lot of newer washers have a complete tub unit now it's all sealed in would need to see the machine with the lid off.

After doing some homework, I am sure you are correct that the spider assembly is broken. Sounds like it may be more of a job than I want to tackle myself. However, I do have one question for you - can the spider assembly be purchased separate from the tub assembly. Note that this is a GE front load (not an LG as you mentioned in your post). It was probably my southern accent that threw you off :)

SOURCE: my kenmore front loading washer is make a bad

Check the Vibration damper rods to be sure that...
1. They are there and mount is solid.
2. If they are broken in 1/2.
3. The plastic knuckle mounts are not missing/broken.
4. There is oil in the shock absorber/spring section of the rods.

Also - there are suspension springs on the bottom of the tub that could be broken and/or missing.

Replace/repair as necessary.

SOURCE: My whirlpool front end load

Hi,

I am sorry to say that fixing this is a major repair. it involves replacing the inner tub and at least the rear half of the outer tub. Getting to these parts involves almost total dis-assembly of the washer. It takes me 2.5 to 3 hours to do this job generally, and the parts cost is substantial.

If I were you, my first step would be to contact Whirlpool and try to get them to cover the repair, or at least the parts.

If you would like to attempt the repair, I will gladly give you some pointers and help you through it, just be aware that it is a complex procedure.

Let me know if you need more help,
Mainetech

its the inner baskets bearings behind this basket as water gets past the rear seal into these bearings and ruins them, you need to dismantle the entire unit to remove the inner basket from the outer tub to replace these bearings

Drum banging is it bearing when on spin

Hi,
This is difficult to work out as there are so many different symptoms. Here are my thoughts -

Dust from carbon rushes is black. Grey dust usually comes from a loose concrete weight. Loose tub weights are rare on this model but they cause a loud knocking noise which is often worse when the washing machine is revving up to spin and dying down from a spin (suspension problems are also often worse at this safe too). It's not normally a metallic sound though.

If the noise is coming from the motor banging against the sides of the machine then it will make the machine move when it happens. The whole machine may jump or move to one side. The motor often thumps the side of the washing machine on Hotpoint washers where the motor is fitted at the top of the tub and over to the right hand side. This is a daft place to fit a motor and only .I think they've eventually stopped now though.

It is normal to be able to push the drum to the side so that the motor hits the casing. If the suspension has gone, the tub should be twisted and leaning to one side more than the other or it just could be very loose. It's difficult to check suspension if you don't know how it should feel.

If the noise is coming from the inner drum hitting the heating element or throwing an object like a £1 coin (trapped between the inner drum and the outer tub) around, then the washing machine will be stable but the noise would still be a horrible metallic knocking. This is one cause I suspect.

Thank you for contacting Fixya.com

Drum will not move

Try to remove drum belt, and then turn drum by hand, if it does not turn , then you have either siezed drum bearigs, or some thing jammed between the inner and outer drum
If drum turns freely, then check motor to see if it is free to turn.
Please rate my solution.
Thanks.

Not spinning properly

You will need to replace the inner basket and front outer tub assembly. Likely, the spider on the inner basket (drum bracket) has broken which is causing it to be loose and rubbing on the inside of the outer tub. This can be verified by checking for excessive play of the inner basket (hold the front of the inner basket and check for play by moving it up and down).
It's not a cheap repair unfortunately. Be sure to always use a small amount (2 tablespoons for a full load) of HE (high efficiency) detergent to prevent future build up which could cause corrosion of the tub spider.

I am considering purchasing a front load GE washing machine. I am curious if the inner drum and the outer drum are both metal? I am comparing the advantages of the GE front load with the Miele and the...

I can't speak for all, but my GE front loader has a stainless inner and a plastic outer tub. I don't know what the benefit of a all metal would be. The plastic outer tub seems to hold up fine, The only problems I have expereinced with the washer tubs were the bearing going bad after the seal failed, but its 10 years old. I consider that normal wear.

The drum bangs on the spin

Two possibles for this are aloose balance block or cracked drum spider. The front block is most prone to coming loose.
To check spider rotate drum little by little and pull towards you to check for movement.
Post back if further help needed.
Thankyou
