Have you also checked sound using one of the rear inputs like with a DVD etc and since this is a older set do if possible take a actual look at the speakers themselves to see if the paper on them is intact, long shot but worth looking. Also did this happen very suddenly or gradually--going offline my self but will return tomorrow--you can still post a comment and I will see it when I return.

Whatever you have connected to the set, a cable or sat box or a receiver unplug them and the set for a while, plug back and see if that helps or not.

I just bought a toshiba 50M2U 50' series TV. I also bought a audio/video switch to connect my bose 3,21, surround sound sytem which still uses the red, blue, green cables and I have a wii system w

i think your problem is with cabling your surround sound is audio only and you wii is video and audio. i would hook up wii first and get it working first. dont plug the surround into the yellow jack on your audio video switch

I bought this from a thrift store for $10 bucks. It works fine in normal mode but when I switch it to surround mode everything turns into static. No matter what input I select or what surround mode it's...

It sounds like you are activating a test mode to set your surround speaker levels.
Usually you should do this before using any surround sound modes.

If you could post the exact model; we can search for an owners manual.

We have just got Toshiba projection tv tw40x81 from a friend and the colors are not sharp and pinky looking. Why is that? How to fix that?

That sounds like it could be a color wheel. The color wheel controls the color on your picture since the DMD chip only creates a gray scale picture. You'll need to do a little more trouble shooting. Color wheels can cost around $100. They can be replaced on your own, but it's kind of a pain to get to.

Black and White

on a low signal input to the set the first thing you loose is the color, then it goes snowy and then just snowwhite in a snow storm or all blue with no sound.

check your cables for no shorts and loose connections,
sometimes the color killer control inside the set in the color circuit has to be tweaked alittle.
