Question about KitchenAid KSSS36QK Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a KitchenAid KSSS36DWX02 SIDE BY SIDE FREEZER/REFRIGERATOR. THE FREEZER TEMP LOWERED TO REFRIGERATOR TEMPERATURE. I REMOVED THE COMPRESSOR PANEL AT THE TOP AND FOUND A GREAT DEAL OF LINT/DUST ON THE COILS. I VACUUMED A GOOD DEAL OF IT OFF, BUT, NOT TOTALLY. DO I NEED A SERVICE CALL FROM A TECHNICIAN?

You dont need a atch to vaccumm the coils for you, you can purchase what they call a refrigeration coil brush, this will allow you to get into all the little nooks of the condensor coil, available at home stores

Hi there

Maybe nothing

1. The fan in the freezer compartment runs full time, this could be the motor noise you hear

If the temperatures are OK then it can not be the compressor that is running all the time or the freezer would go really low in temperature.

You need to pull out the unit and confirm that it is the compressor that is in fact running all the time, they normally run around 12 to 16 hours each day

2. The other unlikely possibility is if the compressor is running full time then there may be a fault with the compressor, busted suction valve or the system could be low on gas.

Regards

Gordon

Freezer always about same temp as the upper refrig section

Check those coils underneith. They are making the machine work harder IF they are dirty. They may be full of lint and cobwebs. All that needs to be removed.

There is a timer that determines the defrost of the cooling coil inside the back wall of the freezer. defrost timer may be located in the area of the controls for temperature. Look for a hole in that area and recessed in that hole you may find a clutch head screw. Turn this screw clockwise very SLOWLY until you hear one click. The freezer coil will be in the defrost mode for 18-22 minutes and then the refrigerator should return to the cooling mode. Make sure the condenser is clean and free of dust and dirt. Condenser is where the heat is removed from the refrigeration system and on most models it is located in back behind a removable panel. Reinstall the panel after cleaning the condenser.

Kitchenaid superba ice freezes in the bin

The temperature of your freezer is probably set to low allowing the ice to melt a bit, then refreeze. Try setting your freezer temp a bit lower. That should fix it.
