2001 Sony KV-36FS12 black screen problem

I now get a black box (the menu screen) on my the actual screen.

It started after adjusting the color and sound using my remote. Now the menu box show up blacking out the same square area.

It shows up after I switch to channel 9424 (Dish Network ESPN) and will continue with each and every channel.

I have to shut the tv down to remove the black menu box. Some times this work and sometimes it doesn't. Nothing else, just black out. Any ideas out there are just ditch it and buy a new one
