A8VE-SE won't recognize SATA HDD

If you are trying to install Windows XP then -
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Hi, my ps3 won't recognise my 1tb wd external hard

The problem with the new 1Tb WD Passport that I just purchased is that it is a USB 3.0 format and apparently PS3 doesn't recognize that speed.

Haven't found a workaround for it yet, but all these people advising you to reormat anew Passport drive are wasting your time.

@hellepie

The HDD interface on this machine is a PATA so BIOS shows the correct interface as IDE 0. Upon loading up the recovery disc (I'm assuming it's a good condition genuine Acer recovery media), what it does is that it re-images the HDD to the default file system and automatically occupies the full partition of the HDD so if you have already re-partition it, the problem might lie right there. Try to do the following:

1. Erase all partition on the new HDD that you have purchased and format it with NTFS and try to load the Acer recovery discs again.
2. If that won't work, try to use a retail copy of Windows and check if it fully install Windows. If it does, try to create a duplicate copy of your Acer recovery discs, it might just be faulty and try again.

Good Luck.

Check your AHCI (or ACHI, can't remember) settings in your BIOS. Turn them off, use "standard pata mode" even though you're using a SATA drive, and try again.

ASUS K8S-MX Motherboard, but when I connect IDE

How were the partitions created on the SATA? Are they RAID configured from the other system? Does the new motherboard have the same support for your HD as the other system? Check the setup in the BIOS screen on both systems to make them identical as much as you can. According to Tom's Hardware: "In the SATA port configuration place you have up to four "mode" choices: IDE (or PATA) Emulation, native SATA, AHCI, or RAID." Check this section. Motherboeard wont detect my ide drive

The HP drive has what is called an EISA partition on it, this partition holds HP information incase of a recovery. It has to be deleted in order for you to use this drive on another computer. If you have an EIDE / SATA to usb adapter you can attach this hard drive to another computer to access it. The adapter can be bought ast a computer retailer, ebay etc. for about 20 bucks. When you get the hard drive attached, look in "My Computer" to nake sure it shows up there and write down the drive letter it gave it. Below is the procedure to delete the EISA partition, follow it closely and you'll be fine. Just make sure that when you are in the command prompt, you DO NOT do anything with Drive 0 that is your main drive on the computer and that is not to be messed with.

Here’s the trick to delete and remove the EISA recovery or diagnostic partition in Vista. Before proceeding with the deletion action, make sure that at least a set of Recovery Disc Media has been created. Else, you won’t be able to restore your computer to working and factory default condition when any problem on PC requires reinstallation.
  1. Open a command prompt as administrator.
  2. Run Diskpart application by typing Diskpart in the command prompt.
  3. In the “Diskpart” prompt, enter rescan command and press Enter key to re-scan all partitions, volumes and drives available.
  4. Then type in list disk and press Enter key to show all hard disk drive available.
  5. Select the disk that contains the partition you want to remove. Normally, with just 1 hard disk, it will be disk 0. So the command will be:
select disk 0
Finish by Enter key.
  1. Type list partition and press Enter key to show all available and created partition in the disk selected.
  2. Select the partition that wanted to be deleted by using the following command, followed by Enter key:
select partition x
where x is the number of the EISA based recovery partition to be removed and unlocked its space. Be careful with the number of this partition, as wrong number may get data wipes off.
  1. Finally, type in delete partition override and press Enter key.
Once the partition has been deleted, exit from Diskpart, and now users can use the much familiar and much easier Disk Management tool in Windows (diskmgmt.msc) to manipulate the freed unallocated partition. Users can create a new volume (partition) with this space, or simply merge it to existing partition by extending the size of the existing partition.

If the system is older, you may be limited by the BIOS. Many old systems do not recognize a partition with Windows.
Have you run fdisk for the format and partition setup?
Did you check the BIOS at startup? Make sure it recognizes the drive in BIOS and sees the partition. Hit F2 on bootup.
If it sees the drive, use a boot disk and run fdisk. Check the parameters and then run the install again.

Being able to use disk manager on a second IDE drive

Did you connect it to a spare IDE cable or an existing cable which was connected to the first hard disk or CD Drive?

Is BIOS able to recognize it? Go to the BIOS settings and check.

But since you are able to see it in the disk manager, it should be connected okay.

This is a new drive right? So what is the problem in deleting the existing partition and recreating it? BTW, what is the partition size?
