My washer agitator will not move or make its usual half turns it makes loud noise i went out and bought a new bas for it tryed it no luck went to take spline off offdrum to fix gaskets or whatever just to check wont come off

GE washer WNSB9080B only allows me to run "Drain and Spin", no other cycle. It wounds like there is still water inside when I move the drum around.


In top loading washing machines, the agitator is responsible for moving the clothes through the water and detergent and is driven by the output shaft of the transmission. The output shaft is normally splined and the center of the plastic agitator will have a matching spline to ensure a tight fit. Depending on the brand of washing machine, the agitator may be a single piece unit or a two piece dual action agitator. If the single piece agitator or the lower portion of a dual agitator does not oscillate back and forth during the wash cycle, or if the agitator can be turned on the transmission shaft, then the spline may be damaged and the agitator may need to be replaced. Most agitators are held in place with a bolt that threads into the top of the transmission shaft and is located below the softener dispenser or top cover. Some models use a small set screw in the barrel of the agitator just above the base to secure the agitator to the shaft, while some will use a rubber o-ring to provide a tight fit. When the retaining device is removed you should be able to lift the agitator from the shaft.

Washer not agitating, fills, spins and drains but wont agitate. grease at bottom of shaft above belt puley


Check the splines on the drum. Take the cap off and remove the lock for the nut, take the nut off and you can pull the whole agitator out of the drum. Look at the splines on the shaft and in the agitator. Make sure they are not worn down to nothing.

I cant lift trhe bottom aggitate plate in my hmwm8000 i have removed the cap and phillips head screw how tov lift the plate?


there should be a bolt holding aggitator on spines,if not try grabbing aggitator and pulling up while rocking aggitator back and forth it will require a great amount of force to remove aggitator fron splined shaft,also so penatrating spray may help sprayed on splined shaft.It also may need to be cleaned around splined shaft to clean built up soap build up. also a haet gun or a hair dryer on high heat on top of aggitator shaft when trying to remove may help!

Unit starts, fills, you can hear a whirring noise when motor tries to rotate drum


IF you are lucky, the spline of the motor rotor has stripped out. It is an easy repair (about a 2 on a 1-10 difficulty scale), and the part carries a 5 year warranty (minimum, up to 10 years on newer models) Remove back cover, unscrew bolt at center of motor, pull rotor off. If spline is stripped from rotor, replace rotor and you're done. IF SPLINE IS NOT STRIPPED ....... Oh s***! The drive shaft has broken loose from the three arms which attach it to the drum. (the part is called the "spider") To repair, remove bolt on end of shaft at center of motor. You may have to cut it with an angle grinder, but don't worry about that, because the shaft has to be replaced anyway. Remove motor rotor and stator. Remove washer front, drain hose, fill hose, shock absorbers, support springs, all wires attached to outer drum, and eventually the entire outer drum. Remove bolts between front and back halves of outer tub to allow removal of inner drum. Remove 6 bolts holding 3 arms of spider to back of inner drum. Re-assemble with new spider and new bolt for end of shaft. If you can do it in under two hours, give yourself a big pat on the back. This is about a 9.5 on a 1 - 10 difficulty scale for repairs on this washer.

almost sounds like the driving drum engagement end has rounded off or the end of drive shaft broke off at either end , or the gear head end is broken / damaged

have a look at the splines on the output shaft on the gear head , check the plate that engages those splines too

physicaly take off the tube / shaft assy from power head and check drum and clutch rotating , check drive shaft end (s)

if ok refit tube / shaft assy ( make sure engaged properly)
tighten mount bolts - remove gear head from end of shaft, start motor and run see if shaft turns ok with some rev s if so
problem is in the gear head

Motor works but no drive to shaft.


My 15 year old Dremel 395 had the same problem so I took it apart. There is a plastic spline between the motor and the output shaft to the chuck . My plastic spline was split and had many of its teeth sheared off. The shaft lock acts on the output shaft side of this spline, so it was ok. Otherwise everything looked great; bearings ran free & had little play free, brushes ok. To be fair, my Dremel had seen hard use & doesn't owe me anything. No luck so far finding replacement spline parts, which if available should be easy to install. To take apart your tool, just google "Dremel Disassembly". GOOD LUCK!

Geartrain
Power is transmitted from the torque converter to the geartrain components through the input shaft and forward clutch cylinder.
  • By holding or driving certain members of the gearset, four forward ratios and one reverse ratio are obtained and transmitted to the output shaft. The ratios are as follows:


GEAR RATIO 1ST 2.71 to 1 2ND 1.54 to 1 3RD 1.00 to 1 4TH 0.71 to 1 REVERSE 2.18 to 1
Input Shaft
The input shaft is supported by two bushings in the stator support. End positioning of the input shaft is controlled by the splines in the converter turbine and the overdrive planet assembly.
Output Shaft
The output shaft is supported by two bushings in the case and by the slip-yoke and bushing in the extension housing. End positioning is controlled by the parking pawl gear and snap ring or shoulder and by the reverse ring gear hub and snap ring.
Overdrive System
The overdrive planetary system consists of the overdrive planet assembly, overdrive sun gear, overdrive ring gear, coast clutch cylinder, overdrive one-way clutch assembly and the center shaft, as shown in the following illustration. The overdrive planet assembly is splined to the input shaft. The overdrive sun gear is centered by a bushing on the input shaft and held in place laterally by needle bearings on the reactor support and the overdrive planet assembly. The overdrive sun gear is splined to the coast clutch cylinder, which in turn is splined to the overdrive one-way clutch inner race.
The outer race of the one-way clutch is splined to the overdrive ring gear, which is splined to the center shaft. The center shaft is centered by the forward planetary assembly and is laterally held by needle bearings on the center support and the overdrive planet assembly. The center shaft is splined into the forward clutch cylinder.
Two friction clutches are assembled in the overdrive planet assembly. The coast clutch is splined between the coast clutch cylinder and the overdrive ring gear. The coast clutch is activated to perform engine braking in MANUAL 1, MANUAL 2 and third gear with the transmission control switch engaged.
The overdrive clutch is splined between the case and the coast clutch cylinder. The overdrive clutch holds the coast clutch cylinder and, in turn, the overdrive sun gear, to permit the planet assembly to overdrive the ring gear.

Forward Drive System
The forward drive system consists of the forward clutch cylinder, intermediate brake drum, intermediate one-way clutch, input shell, forward ring gear, forward ring gear hub, forward/reverse sun gear and the forward planetary carrier and forward planetary gears.
The forward clutch cylinder is splined on the center shaft. The forward ring gear is piloted on the forward ring gear hub. Thrust bearings on the forward planet assembly and forward clutch cylinder hold the forward ring gear hub in place.
The intermediate brake drum is radially supported by bushings on the center support and is laterally controlled by thrust washers on the forward clutch cylinder and center support. The intermediate brake drum has the inner race of the intermediate one-way clutch press-fitted on its pilot. The intermediate one-way clutch's outer race is splined to the intermediate friction clutch, which is splined to the case. The intermediate brake drum has lugs that are slotted into the input shell to form a mechanical connection. The input shell is splined into the forward/reverse sun gear. The forward/reverse sun gear is common to two planetary gearsets. The forward planet is splined to the output shaft and is laterally positioned by needle bearings on the sun gear and on the forward clutch cylinder, as shown in the following illustration.
Two friction clutch assemblies, the direct clutch and the forward clutch, are shown with the forward planetary assembly. The direct clutch assembly splines the forward clutch cylinder to the intermediate brake drum. The forward clutch assembly splines the forward clutch cylinder to the forward ring gear. The forward clutch is activated during all forward gears. While in third or fourth gear, both the direct and forward clutches are applied to hold the forward planetary assembly and enable it to act as a solid shaft.
In second gear, the intermediate clutch assembly holds the forward/reverse sun gears. It is applied, along with the intermediate one-way clutch, to hold the intermediate brake drum, input shell and forward/reverse sun gear. In higher gears, the one-way clutch overruns.

Low and Reverse Drive System
The reverse planetary assembly consists of the reverse planetary carrier, reverse planet gears, the reverse ring gear, the reverse ring gear hub, the reverse clutch hub and the low-reverse one-way clutch assembly.
The reverse ring gear hub is splined to the output shaft and to the reverse ring gear. The reverse ring gear hub is laterally held by a needle bearing on the inner race of the low-reverse one-way clutch and a snap ring on the output shaft. The reverse planet assembly is splined to the low-reverse clutch hub. The low-reverse clutch hub is connected by the reverse clutch to the case. The inner race of the one-way clutch is bolted to the case.
The reverse clutch assembly is activated in REVERSE gear and in MANUAL 1. The reverse clutch bypasses the reverse one-way clutch during coast and MANUAL 1. The reverse clutch holds the reverse planet assembly in REVERSE gear to enable the sun gear to drive the reverse ring gear in the opposite direction.

Apply Components
The following information describes the operation of the three 4R100 one-way clutches.
One-Way Clutch—Overdrive
The overdrive one-way clutch, shown in the following illustration, transmits engine torque from the overdrive sun gear to the overdrive ring gear in first, second and third gear range. The overdrive one-way clutch transmits power when the sprags are engaged between the inner and outer races. The inner race is splined to the coast clutch cylinder, which in turn is splined to the overdrive sun gear. The outer race is splined to the overdrive ring gear.
The overdrive one-way clutch engages whenever the overdrive planetary system attempts to drive the overdrive sun gear clockwise when the overdrive ring gear has a counterclockwise torque from the vehicle. When torqued counterclockwise, the overdrive one-way clutch engages and acts as a wedge to lock the sun gear and the ring gear together. During coast, the overdrive one-way clutch enables the ring gear to overrun or spin at a faster rate than the sun gear.
The overdrive one-way clutch overruns when in overdrive (fourth gear). In overdrive, the coast clutch cylinder is held by the overdrive one-way clutch, which in turn holds the overdrive sun gear. This causes the overdrive planet assembly to walk around the sun gear and overdrive the overdrive ring gear. The inner race of the overdrive one-way clutch is thus held stationary while the outer race is allowed to overrun clockwise.

Cant get the inner hub off the spline shaft (front passenger side)


i assume you removed the nut that holds the spline shaft on the hub? try wd40 and put the nut back on a few turns and beat it with a hammer

Transmission interchange


Yes, but the steps involved in switching the 4wd output shaft, over to the 2wd output shaft are very involved. Thats assuming that the bellhousings are identical. (detachable bellhousing) That you do not need a 30 spline input shaft for your torque converter (96+ blazer input shaft splines are all 28 splines, however you may need a 30 spline in order for the correct torque converter to fit your 2wd vehicle.) You will need to know what 2wd output shaft you need, there are quite a few variations. Then you would need to take the pan off, pull the shift soleniod blocking access to the lockup soleniod, remove the lockup soleniod, remove the pump bolts, pull the pump, unhook the 2nd/4th, band remove the reverse drum - 3/4 drum (by pulling the input shaft twards you) then remove the yellow snap ring holding the output shaft in place. Now the output shaft is able to be removed and switched. Re instalation of the drums/pump is tricky as well, as all the clutches need lined back up to slide back onto there corasponding splines. Long story short, it would be alot more trouble than its worth. : )

The drum won't spin-


the drum wont spinn with wate in it(very fast anyway). if you remove the agitator, the inner tub lifts right out(its a floating basket) perhaps an article of clothes has gotten below it preventing free floating of the tub. While out ive als seen where the metal spline/shaft has worn down the plastic counterpart and the tub has nothing to grabonto to allw to spin, the sppline and plastic counterpart are very apparent after removing the agitator, they sell a spline repair kit(new spline and holder (3 screws) easy repair.
