Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Frigidaire dryer and the blower fan keeps seizing. I can turn the blower fan with a wrench and it will free up and run fine without the belt/drum attached. It is a little noisy, but runs. As

Model Ferb7800ds0.

All of my question didn't appear. So after I free up the blower fan and reattach belt and drum, it runs for a couple of minutes and seizes up again. I have replaced belt and drum bearing.

SOURCE: FRIGIDAIRE GLEQ2152ES0 DRYER DRUM WILL NOT TURN

You need to check the motor isn't bad which is possible. All of what you have stated is possible. You are going to have to check out each and every one until you find it. But all three can cause it.

SOURCE: Past few days, dryer got very noisy. Then drum

The noise is coming from a moving part. There are only a few that normally cause a problem. Also the dryer drum not turning freely is what broke your belt. Here is what I would replace. Drum rollers, Drum slides and idler pulley. You can check these parts before you replace them. If the drum rollers don't spin real easy, replace. If the idler pulley does not turn easy, replace. If the drum slides are worn, replace. Your model may be one with a front drum bearing. If it looks worn, replace.
You may be able to take dryer apart, try turning drum. Listen for the noise and notice if the drum is hard to turn. If so, you may be able to determine if the problem is in the front or back of drum. Keep on mind that the noise might have been the belt slipping due to the drum being hard to turn. Either way, when you have it repaired, it should run with the noise. Good luck.

SOURCE: Motor is noisy (loud buzzing). Drum belt seized.

the problem, is with a component, called a capacitor.a capacitor gives a"jump start"to the motor.when this charge or jump start cannot be given, the motor will "hum" or"buzz".a new capacitor should not too expensive.

How do I remove broken fan

The fan is reversed threaded. Lefty tighty righty loosey. To get a stubborn blade off without harming the motor use a adjustable wrench to connect to the flat portion of motor shaft inside the dryer and place the end of the wrench to the left on the floor. Jam a Large flat file in between the blower wheel at the 3 o'clock position. Use downward force with a large hammer to knock the blower loose. If it still will not budge hit the center of the plastic till the blower pieces are removed so that you can get over to an anvil with the motor. Lay the motor shaft on the anvil and bang on the pot metal left over from the plastic till it breaks. 2 or 3 good whacks with a big ball peen hammer should do the trick. You want to keep in mind the motor does not needs to be wrangled with but you still must get the remainder of the old blade off there.

Blower won't run

usually a "humming motor" indicates either a bad capacitor or a defective motor. With the power off try to spin the blower wheel...it should spin freely. If it is tight or wont spin and there are no obstructions stopping it (like an air filter sucked into blower or other debris) then the motor most likely is seized. If the blower wheel spins free then you may have a bad capacitor. Keep in mind, just because the blower spins easy doesn't mean the motor is good. I have had motors that are defective that dont seize up but most of the time the blower wheel will not spin free if the motor fails.

Frigidaire dryer blower fan keeps getting stuck.

Since you didn't leave a model number, I will have to give you a generic answer, instead of one with a part number of the most likely replacement part. Normlly the problem you discribe is a result of the blower motor bearing wearing out and letting the fan blades rub against the housing. And since the bearing is internal to the motor, you have to replace the entire motor.

Back of dryer getting very hot and keeps tripping the heat switch works fine not for long without overheating

Dryer Running Hot

Check and clean if necessary your vent hose.
If you vent hose "seems" to be clean then, try running the dryer with the vent hose off and see if the dryer is not running hot anymore.
If you are running too hot you are not moving enough air thru the system.
It could be that the fan blade is plugged up.
The problem could be a large lint ball build up in the center of the fan or a sock, thin pants,a pen, etc. that has gotten into the fan by falling down the hole where the lint screen is normally inserted.
You have to find the air restriction to solve the problem.
It also can be a loose or worn out blower wheel/fan.

Motor heats up and stops running how do remove

The blower fan on this model has reverse threads where it screws onto the motor shaft. At the small space between the motor and the rear wall of dryer you will see that the blower wheel has a square neck that will allow you to hold it stationary with a large crescent wrench. while holding the blower grip the pulley on the front of the motor with another wrench (or channel locks) and turn the motor shaft clockwise to break the blower loose. Sometimes a quick motion is better to free it as it may be on the motor threads pretty tight.
Good luck on this!

Frigidaire electric dryer. F2143 Hot smell and drum stopped. took apart belt looks good, but the motor will move but with great turning pressure. Can I lubricate the motor and if now how do I replace?...

no the motor can not be lubricated.
the blower wheel can be removed by usin a socket on the front nut and a wrench on the flat spots of the motor shaft .
then remove the clips that hold the motor down and you should be able to remove the motor.
you also need to check the tension pulley and make sure it is not seized up.

Fan stops

The cooling fan for the condenser is probably running, getting hot and seizing up. Check to see if the fan is free spinning after it stops. Take a probe and try to spin it manually. If it turns freely, then it could be going bad with it's electrical windings, the internal coils that create the magnetic field that spins the rotor of the fan motor. I suspect it is seizing up, however, once a fan seizes up, it usually stays that way and won't spin even after it cools down. It could be a capacitor that is going bad and not starting the fan after it gets hot. A capacitor is a small round shaped can type with usually 2 wires hooked in series with the motor it is trying to start. That is what it does, help start the device (compressor or fan motor). Good luck.Ken from Henderson NV.

I have a frigidare model fde216res2 dryer when you turn it on the motor starts to run drum won't move and it smells like it is burniong replaced the belt what else can i do

Inspect the drum circumference, front and backm inside and out.
There are drum rollers that support the drum and if 1 seizes, this can keep the drum from moving. Also the motor mount has an Idler pulley that can also seize. A foreign object stuck between the front and rear bulkheads can cause it to stall.
You should be able to freely rotate the drum without the belt being installed. if you have free rotation, then maybe you are improperly installing the belt. Follow the link to a belt diagram installation page.
