Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My Kenmore Elite 110.62932100 won't tumble or heat up.

The timer turns on but the heater doesn't turn on and the dryer doesn't tumble. I'm just wondering what I can do to fix the dryer just short of buying a new one.

Nope. It was the motor went out. So we had to get a new dryer.

Try the homes 240volt circuit breaker it may not show its tripped but one of the 2 phases can trip out, (just reset the breaker) and if this happens either the dryer drum motor will turn or the timer will run, but not both as these 2 components each use 1 of the 2 phases 120 volts to run,but the heating element needs both 120volt phases for 240volts for the heating element to heat, this is what your issue sounds like to me,hope this helps

SOURCE: Hello, I've got a Kenmore 80 series dryer Model:

Check for lint clogging first. Pull the unit away from the wall and look to see if there is an excessive build up of lint at or near the discharge vent or into the vent line. Clean as needed. If it's really clogged you may have to remove the back cover.

If no joy, then check for a bad thermostat. There should be two. They are located on the discharge vent near the dryer exhaust blower. You will have to remove the back cover of the dryer to get to them. Check the stats for continuity. MAKE SURE the power is off before working on the dryer.

It's much more likely to be on of the two items listed above, but if the dryer isn't clogged and the stats are both good, check the heating element.

I had this problem with one of my dryers and it turned out that the heating element was broken. It is a repair man that you need now I'm afraid.

Kenmore Elite Heavy Duty King size capacity Quiet Pak 1 dryer doesn't turn on

Check to see if the door switch is working. When you push and release it, it should click. If not, it will need to be replaced.
If the switch is good, then the only other component that would cause that problem is the thermal fuse. If you could post your model number I could direct you to the part you need.

Kenmore dryer 110.86864100 - Where is the moisture sensor?

Ain't no moisture sensor. This is is not an electronic sensing machine. It uses another method to determine dryness. An orange wire connects to the base of the heating element. The timer motor is driven by power from it in auto dry. The timer motor is VERY slow. Slower than most dryer timer motors. As the clothes get dryer the heat is not needed so the element is turned off by the control thermostat which is mounted next to the skinny white fuse on the blower housing. This allows for the turtle like motor on the timer to advance. Once the clothes get to the point of dryness the heater stays off way longer and the timer motor advances on over to the cool down and carry on over to the end of cycle. So the clothes won't always be dry due to factors like lint buildup in the blower housing, venting to outside and so forth. having said that my mom bought a brand new Kenmore dryer and I set it on 55 minutes timed drying. At the end of that them clothes is still damp. I then set it to auto dry high heat and that usually gets em dry. I think the main probo with this dryer is the thermostat ain't set as high as older models to keep the heat at a moderate temp so that the limits won't blow on models in apts and such. Just a theory.

Kenmore front load dryer won't heat and timer broken

The most likely cause is the timer is bad. It turns on and off things as it cyles through and the first step is to get the tub turning before it turns on the heat.

Why won't my dryer heat up?

There are several reasons for no heating on a Tumble Dryer. The heating element could be faulty ( open circuit.) There are several thermal cut outs which can also go open circuit The only way to check is with a Multi Meter by a qualified service engineer.

Dryer wont shut off unless turned off and dryer just tumbles with no heat.

If it won't turn off or heat then it is probably the timer or if it is a newer unit the control board.
