SOURCE: My KitchenAid KBRS22K bottom mount refrigerator is

the problem here is the defrost element is not coming on, the problem is the control board in the fresh food compartment is defective and not telling the element to defrost. Therefore your cooling coils are impacted with ice which keeps freezer cold, and sensor in freezer says everything is ok and therefore sends nothing to refrigerator. Replace the defrost control board, Thaw out the cooling coils in freezer, and your back in business

SOURCE: My refrigerator only cools in the freezer and

On some models the fan will not turn on until the door closes. Also make sure you DO NOT have the refrigerator set to the coldest setting. This actually isolates the refrigerator from the freezer and only the freezer gets cold. It works the opposite and most think. The fan in the freezer (evaporator fan) is normally operated by the defrost control board. That may have failed. If you have replaced the fan already chances are that it's good but you may want to inspect the Defrost control board. Sometimes there's a few resistors that will appear burnt up and discolored. Sometimes you don't see anything at all. That board pretty much runs the whole show and set's different fan speeds, defrost times etc. It's called the electronic control part#PS969091 it sells for about $356.42.
All in all I have not heard great reviews about this product. Hopefully it's something simple and not the board but it's a good place to start.

I have a side by side whirlpool fridge and the freezer is fine but the fridge is now freezing everything. It's about 11 years old.

Since you stand to loose all the food I would call a service tech ASAP. But here are the most common reasons for the problem you have.
Cause 1
The Evaporator Coils are Frosted Over The defrost heater assembly turns on a few times throughout the day to melt away any frost that may have accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the defrost heater assembly is defective, frost will continue to accumulate on the evaporator coils, and the coils will become plugged with frost. If the evaporator coils are frosted over, the airflow through the coils will be restricted, causing the refrigerator not to cool. Check the evaporator coils to determine if they are frosted over. If the evaporator coils are frosted over, test each component of the defrost system.
Cause 2
Evaporator Fan Motor The evaporator fan motor draws cold air over the evaporator coils and circulates it throughout the freezer. If the evaporator fan is not working, the freezer or refrigerator will not cool adequately. To determine if the evaporator fan motor is defective, try turning the fan blade by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, replace the fan motor. Additionally, if the motor is unusually noisy, replace it. Finally, if the motor does not run at all, use a multimeter to test the motor windings for continuity. If the windings do not have continuity, replace the evaporator fan motor..
Cause 3
Damper Control Assembly The air damper control opens and closes to let the proper amount of cold air into the refrigerator compartment. If the damper does not open properly, it won't let enough cold air into the refrigerator. Check the damper control to determine if it is broken or stuck closed.

How do you make a freezer frost free?

Frost free means that the evaporator coil will not accumulate a thick layer of frost. It will not prevent frost from accumulating on the walls of the freezer. To slow down the amount of frost build up inside the freezer, do not keep the freezer door open for any longer than necessary. The freezer door seal may be defective. This would allow moisture in that would freeze on the inside walls. A heater with timed intervals to come on is one way for a frost free feature. But this will not work for frost build up on the inside walls of the freezer. It would only melt the frost and then it would refreeze again.

Whirlpool freezer won't freeze

you need to send the model number so i can see what fridge you have,is it a side by side freezer on top or bottom.check the back inside wall of the freezer to see if any ice or like snow is on the back inside wall of the freezer,if so you have a defrost problem,if it's a top freezer is there any water leaking into the fridge section, check under the crisper draws,if water is there you could have a blocked drain in the freezer, the water that's from the defrost mode leaks into the air ducts and freezes,or you could have a freon leak in the sealed system, remove the inside back wall of the freezer and check the frost pattern on the evap coil,if there's frost just on the top of the coil and nowhere else on the coil you have a freon leak, one more thing you could have a bad evap fan motor, open the freezer door, you should hear the fan blowing around, open the freezer door and push and hold the door or light switch in for a minute and then let it out,if the fan doesn't run it could be bad.the last thing is the compressor isn't running and you're hearing the condenser fan running and not the compressor, the start device on the compressor could be bad, feel the compressor,is it hot and feel it to make sure it's running.so bad start device, freon leak, defrost problem or bad evap fan motor or condenser motor.if you get back to me and let me know what you find and send the model number i can help you better.

Fridge side is not cooling but freezer is.

The problem is usually air flow across the evaporator coils (the coils in the back of the freezer section) All of the cooling in the refrigerator section is done by the circulated air across these coils..........If the coils are frosted solid you have a defrost problem....(you can manually defrost which will last about 3 weeks before it is frosted up again) Normally it automatically defrost about every 8 hours for arould 20 minutes..... If the fan above the evaporator is not running it may be a bad fan motor or the defrost bimetal in series with it is open and needs replacing.........Lastly if you hear the fan running and feel air coming out of the damper, check the air return to the freezer section(usually not the problem, usually it is the bimetal thermostat.......This is kind of general info for a bottom mount or top mount or side by side unit......hope it helps

Freezer not freezing

when the freezer is not freezing, check the fan and fan motor in the freezer section. It should be running when the compressor is running. Check for frost. If you see frost on the rear inside panel, the frost is usually about 3 in. thick on the inside. Check and make sure the fan next to the compressor is running, if your's has one. It will run when the compressor is running. Check for gaps in your door gasket. If there is no frost, both fans are running, compressor is running, and no gaps, and your coils outside the refrigerator are clean, it doesn't sound good.

Whirlpool gold:upper half of refridgerator side not cold

Either the evap fan has a problem, or the defrost system has failed. You should never see frost in the freezer section as the defrost sensor should sense that the coils need to be defrosted before that much frost accumulates.

Unplugging to clean out helped because the frost got a chance to melt away.

If you find the evap motor is running, then the things to check are the defrost sensor, the defrost timer, and the defrost heater.

Reply back if you would like more info.
