Hello Peet
The Elna Contessa 310 is very similar to the 410. The manual may downloaded at this link

What is the rght tension for The Elna Contessa 410 sewing machine?

Every machine is different, so a "right" tension will vary. The factory standard tension setting is the midway point between high & low number...BUT that needs to be tweaked per your machine.

Skipped stitches? Be sure to use a brand new needle and a needle that is compatible with the thread and fabric you are sewing. (Replacing an old needle is the most common and least expensive fix for a lot of machine problems.)

Optimal tension is when the upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

I have a Contessa MO-104 Elna overlocker and I have lost the power cord. Anyone know where I can get a new one?

contact the manufacturer on line and see if it available
However most power cords have similar ends so try a sewing service centre for a generic power cord.

Standard tension setting

I can't see your model listed, only Elna Sewing machine, which may be one of the newer ones or could also be an older Swiss made. machine. So, can't tell if you've got a top loading bobbin where the bobbin case is integrated into the machine. Or some Elnas such as the Contessa and Primula were a front loading bobbin in a case, these are a bit different in setting the lower tension.

But generally, you shouln't need to mess with the lower tension, and top tension should be in the range of 5, sometimes 4-6 depending on what you are sewing. If you are having top thread issues its more likely to be a gunked up tension device or something missed in the threading path causing the issue. If you can add in your actual model I may be able to assist more specifically.

I have a contessa,MO.104 overlocker,i really need a manual can any one help me please, thanks,JUDY

Hi My name is Karyn my email karyndiana@hotmail.com
I can help you thread the Elna over locker. Write to me at my email. Once threaded with 4 dirfferent colours find a scrap of medium weight fabric and sew few inches/ 10 cm or so, it is then easy to see which threads appear loose and which appear tight. For the actual overlocked edge the two threads ought to weave together and meet eachother on the cut edge of the fabric.tighten on colour and loosed the other until they meet on the edge. with the outside needle and the (under) 'arm' below which make the 'chain' seem you will also see using diffrerent coloured threads, if the chain is loose tighten the tension for that thread - usually the 'arm' tension. For any further help email me as I may not find my way back to this site.
If you can help me I'm currently looking for a Blade for an Elna MO 104 over locker.
