Computer to marantz sr 5001 via hdmi

Hi there, i am trying to connect my computer to my Marantz SR5001 via Hdmi. Trying to use the lead that is "normally" plugged into my bluray player (with no issues there) But when i plug it into my laptops hdmi output it says there is no signal. This will work going directly into the tv but it would be nice to be able to go through amp so i can have my surround sound. Any ideas or solutions would be AWESOME Cheers Dan

SOURCE: I have the following hardware:

Remove the HDMI cable (out) to the speakers from the receiver.
Connect regular speaker wire from the receiver to the speakers.
Of course, remove the (now extra) HDMI cable from the tv.
That will remove the loop.

SOURCE: no image, only sound when

Whatever video components you have, they should be, depending on inputs on TV, should be run to TV first. Recievers do have pass through ports but, are not the best way to achieve picture and sound. HDMI cables are great but you r reciever may not be able to transfer the video. What I suggest is taht you run your componenets, cable/sat box, DVD, etc. via HDMI, componenet, etc., to TV input, then, run audio out from TV, via(best) digital optical. You can use TV's menu to choose what you watch while, you only have the one input to reciever. Scan your recievers menu to make sure you have selected the proper mode(TV, Aux, Vid2, etc.).. If you run your video unit to TV with component cables, you will have to get your sound through separate cable(s). Component cables have graet video, but do not carry the sound.

Component input no HDMI output

The receiver can only output picture from one video output at a time...ei; component video and HDMI cannot operate simultaneously. Nor can it transfer a signal from a component input to an HDMI output or vice versa. The input and output connections must match.

Playstation 3

I assume that the Marantz has an Optical lead input. If so you should connect an digital optical lead directly between the PS3 and the Marantz receiver for the sound while keeping the HDMI lead to the projector for the picture. You will need to configure the PS3 to be outputting the sound to the optical output (done through the settings menu).
