SOURCE: no electricity from generator

If you have a voltmeter, you can check the voltage coming out of the outlet. If you have some kind of residual voltage, such as 25 Volts AC or 10 volts ac, then you probably have a voltage regulator problem and your regulator will need to be replaced. If you read 0 volts then you you have an open between the output (outlet) and the windings of the stator.

My generator will run but barely prodeces enough power to run a fan.

This is a brushless generator, it will not have the charcol things refered to above also known as brushes.. Fire it up and put a volt meter on the 120vac out let. If it is reading 4 to 6.5 vac then the armature is more than likely okay it can be as low as 2.25vac.. Pull the back of the generator off and there should be a large capacitor on the left side with two wires connected to it. If it is leaking or the top is separated replace it. The brushless generator uses the capacitor to excite the magnetic field on order to generate the electricity. It is a simple system with few parts to wear out. Good Luck.

I need a wiring diagram for a generac gp15000e generator

I have a 15000 ultrasource generator the start and stop switch was taken out i need to put it back The problem is i dont know which wire goes where and when i look at the wire diagram the numbers are different the numbers on my unit are 15, 11, 133, 14, 12, The 15 and 11 are the same wires the start and stop switch has 6 males on the back to plug the wires into Does anyone know which wire goes where???

The generator quit working all of a sudden i'm wondering if it could be a faulty capacitor?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

The BSI550 came in 4 model types 0, 1, 2, and 3.

Types 2 and 3 are brushless. I am assuming this is a brushless generator and the following list of parts can cause the unit to suddenly stop working.

1. Capacitor(s) This unit has _ capacitors
Usually when capacitors fail on a brushless generator you first start noticing that when there is a load introduced that voltage changes dramatically. However they can just up and quit.
2. Diode pack
3. Wiring from the capacitor to the stator is damaged.
4. The Varistor in the rotor has failed (this fails because of a short in the rotor)
5. Rotor short or open
6 Stator winding short or open.

My years of experience with brushless generators is the 2 most common failures (other than wiring that happens alot) are the Rotor and the capacitors in that order. Rotors fail out of the blue... capacitors usually do not. Take a look inside the control panel. If you notice that the bottom of the the end cap enclosure looks like someone dripped candle wax in it you most likely have a failed capacitor. I probe the capacitor(s) with one terminal removed watching for a brief spike in resistance on the meter and then it drifts to infinity EACH time the meter leads are reversed. (Good result usually). After that is is on to wiring, Rotor and stator resistance tests.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

if your engine is running ok then adjust the speed control screw, I had a honda generator that lost it's output voltage until i increased the engine running speed screw, i guess there must be some kind of speed sensor!!, i hope this is usefull. COLIN

No ac power from generator

One sure thing is you better find a competent service guy.

It sounds like you have lost excitation to the field of the alternator. Without documentation I can't tell if this is a brushless type or brush type rotor.

In either case, the excitation needs to be restored. On a brushless type, either lack of residual magnetic flux to start the buildup of the field OR failure of the rotating diode(s) can be the problem.

In a brush version, investigate "flashing" the field on Google or trace out why there is no voltage to the field. Possible things for this are failed transformer, failed rectifier, blown protective fuse and or wiring.

Generator wont work

The first thing to determine is if the unit is brushless type. If it has brushes, the rectifier module MIGHT be a problem, but more likely is the field has lost its remaining magnetism and needs to be "flashed".

HOWEVER if it is brushless, the field there would require special methods to restart. Search google for brushless generator problem and look for method using series light bulbs and utility power.

NOTE. sometimes a short inadvertently placed on the brushless units will pop the roatating diodes which then must be replaced.
