Question about Wharfedale Moviestar 70+ System

Open Question

Can I connect an Onkyo HT-R508 amp (8 ohms) to a Wharfedale Moviestar 70+ (4 ohms) speaker system?

I have recently bought an Onkyo HT-R508 amp which has a rating of 8 ohms and a Wharfedale Moviestar 70+ speaker system with a rating of 4 ohms. Is it safe to connect this?

SOURCE: Hi there Could somebody please

The speakers are rated at 20 watts rms (Root Mean Square)

The 8 Ohm impedence is applied so that the driver on the amp is balanced and lowering the impedence can cause them to fail as they overdrive.

As Wharfdale have worked out the dynamics of these speakers very carefully I would apply their logic of putting the right Ohmic value on the end of them.

I would not Daisy Chain them as this will lead to reduced performance anyway

By Wharfdale selecting cone magnets and cones that match they do not need loads of welly to give their best

Yes your Yamaha will if applied full throttle could damage them but then there are amps out there that would blow up most speakers unless they were designed for that load

You could contact Wharfdale direct and ask them for their spec sheet

Take a look at the setup procedure. Your Onkyo may allow you to select speaker size and distribution of bass, etc

I have a Onkyo Model HT-S5300 I can to install two additional front speaker I want to know the speaker specification that i can install

The speakers and amp are optimized at 6-ohms. Adding speakers will require you to run them in parallel with a possible dangerously low impedance; or in series, doubling the impedance which is safer.

These products are not designed to be modified.

Hi ther i was wondering the max power i can put through my gale moviestar bookshelf speakers? i have them as mt main speakers on a sony av amp mod- TA-VE700

realalema60,
The main speakers can handle up to 120 watts and the satellites about 60 and the center near 90. As long as the speakers are 8 ohm rated, you have no issues with your receiver over powering them so play away.

Onkyo M-282

check your amplifier output speaker impedance requirements..
example: 8 ohms...build a speaker 8 ohms in parallel or series connection..
check the impedance using ohmeter ..you must reach the required impedance..

use 1 cell battery to check if you speakers are in-phase...if one speaker did not ..reverse connection and check again ...to give the good sound...hope you understand my english..:)

Does onkyo HT-s3100 supports 4 Ohms speakers from JBL(control 1)

Palaboy is incorrect. JBL Control 1 speakers are 4 Ohm 150 watt speakers. He's probably thinking of the Control 1x speakers which are 8 ohm 80 watt speakers.

If you hook your Control 1s to that Onkyo, it won't sound great and could cause the receiver to overheat and trip the protection circuit if played at high volume.

Wharfdale moviestar 70 speekers and sub

i have the same moviestars 70+ plus a yamaha rx-v750 put the crossover on the sub to maximum (left knob) volume (right knob) about 2/3 clockwise. change the crossover on the yamaha to anywhere from 80-120 ( the 120 will put more bass to the sub) if your yamaha has sub level/volume control set it higher, also if it has LFE/sub out set it to sub only.
Good luck!

Cutting off and stayin in Stand by mode

To me it sounds like you might have blown a channel(s). The speakers that you are using with unit, did they come with it? If not you need to check the ohms of the speakers. It looks like the Onkyo HT-SR800 can only handle a minimum of 8 ohms. If your unit is under warranty definately send it in for repair
