NUMBER LOCK
You have press the NumLk key (number lock) and this changes the right hand keys to a number pad.
Press the NumLk key (also doubles as the ScrLk key to toggle the Number lock). it is near the F12 function key. When the NumLk has been enabled a LED light is turn on to indicate this function has been selected. Press the NumLk key again to turn off the Number Lock.

Keyboard incorrectly types a mixture of letters and numbers when certain keys are used.

There are a couple of things you could try:
1. Remove the keyboard following a service manual for your laptop, and reseat the ribbon cable underneath it.
2. If the problem still isn't solved, the keyboard should be replaced

My letter keyboard is showing numbers and not letter..please help. (advent laptop)

Laptops do not have as many keys as a normal keyboard so often they include the numbers over letter keys.
So, by mistake you pressed a ctrl or alt or [A] key that simply switches the keys from letters to numbers.
A light or indication must be ON on your laptop indicating that it's Numbers or Letters ON.

Find the key that changes the function and restore the function to letters.

My notebook has starting producing numbers instead of letters when I press certain keys - what is the problem?

Hi
you have enabled the numeric keyboard on your laptop
Try pressing the FN key (usually located at bottom left) and the F11 key.

If F11 key doesn't work you could try finding the F key with a mini keyboard icon on it.
Regards.

Some of the keys on my keyboard are producing wrong symbols not all of them mostly tge right hand side of the keyboard for example when i press the letter 'o' it produces /6 and the p produces -* how do i...

this means that your number lock is turned on.

there is a Fn key on the board. hold that and look for the number lock key and press it. each system is different so it will be either NumLk, NumLock, or a 1 with a lock symbol. Acer generally places this on a F key many times F7.

Need instructions for keyboard toshiba satellite laptop , need to know what keys to push when using the numbers in the keyboard that are also letters

No need for the instruction manual. When your going to use the numbers that are inside of the letters, hold down the the FN key and then push the number that you want to be displayed. For example holding down the FN key and then pressing the L key produces the number 3 for me. Try your keys out and see what you get.

Numbers and letters will not show up when pressed....sometimes i hear a chime, sometimes not & touchpad problem also

First Off check that you DONT have NUM LOCK on !

On a laptop this would produce numbers instead of letters on some keys U,I,O,P,J,K,L.M

If that is not the cause and your operating system is windows based then check you have the correct drivers from the correct manufacturer (dell / compaq)

If you are all good up to here then it may just be a bad keyboard and may need to be replaced (usually not all that expensive on laptops) or you could plug a regular keyboard into an available USB port or keyboard port if it has one.

My laptop keyboard is typing different letters and numbers

It sounds like your keyboard is starting to go. Try plugging a usb keyboard and using that. If your keyboard needs replacing, it may be around $50, but that will depend.

Problem with keyboard or input of certain keys

hi.. is that a bi-lingual keyboard that you purchased? If so, what model? If that's a toshiba laptop w/ a bi-lingual keyboard, press the left (shift+ctrl) buttons for 10-15secs then release it. You should be able to bring back the normal function of your keyboard. If your having problems pressing the "n" key and it replaces it with a number on the screen when you type it, it's most likely that you enabled the "num lock" function of your keyboard, on Toshiba press FN+F11, on Dell FN+F11 also i think, it may differ on other models, sometimes FN+ Print Screen or Pause (above F11).

Hope this helps.
