The Wireless Security is as follows:

1. Pick a name, phrase, that you'll remember. for myself I use Jason and the Star Commanders - and I will cycle the words around on a monthly/bi-monthly basis depending upon systems connecting.

The KEY that can be delivered to you is going to be either 64 or 128 bit encryption. The longer the word (multiple words work very nicely) the better the encryption (the more unbreakeable).

Most public & private systems use this method, they just don't tell you. One of my all time favorites is Bazooka (after the bubble gum!)

2. Enter this Phrase into : PASS PHRASE and the web interface will create a WEP Key for you. Copy this KEY down and bring it to the PC/Laptop that you wish to wirelessly connect.

* Ok, I admit, I am not giving you the exact steps due to the nature of this website.

3. Enable WEP access, as well as your SSID (other screen), fix the data rate for AUTO or 6Mb, etc. Channels are only used if you are dealing with multiple routers with the same SSID.

4. Upon initial connection to wireless device (laptop, desktop, etc) you will need to enter the KEY (and possibly confirm) upon connecting - it is not case sensitive, but as a standard, just enter in lower case.

If you need further assistance, or a clearer walkthrough the process, please do not hesitate to call 906-495-1707, generally available till midnight eastern time.

I need a pass phrase or network key to be able to log on to my wireless internet connection for my laptop.

Good day. If your looking for your looking for the pass phrase or network key for your router. You can try to do the following.
1. Check for a WEP key on the router itself. Usually it is on a sticker located under the router or at the back of it. 2. You can go to the router page using your internet explorer or mozilla > just type in on your browser > it will ask for a username and password > username: leave it blank password: admin > then go to wireless setting > then it will show you your WEP or WPA or Wireless key > Dont be confuse the wep or wpa or pass phrase are all the same > then just type it on the space where its asking you to type in a pass phrase and that should work
3. If still you can locate it you can contact your internet service providers technical support department and they will be able to walk you through it

Hope this information will be helpful in resolving your concern. Have a great day and thanks for using fixya.

Security lock has vanished, how do I make my system secure again?

you will need to browse to the following location on internet explorer or another browser.
the default login/pass is
  • Username = admin
  • Password = password
  • or pass = 1234
  1. From the left-hand navigation menu of the Router Manager, select Set Up > Wireless Settings.
  2. From the center screen, select your encryption type from under the Security Options heading.

    • If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.
    • If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.

I don't kow that I actually have a problem. This

Right click on your wireless icon at the bottom of your screen and select View Wireless Networks. Your network name should have a lock next to it. If it don't then it is not secure.

Have someone come over with another laptop and try and find and connect to your network. If they get a box asking for a password then it is secure.

My daughter wants to use her lap top at my house but my wireless internet is asking for a pass code i dont remember, how can i find out what it is

If you can plug the laptop into the router via ethernet which will bypass the wireless sequrity and then log into the routers web configeration page and find the wep/wpa key.

With more information such as router model I could walk you though more but that should get you though.

Hope this helps

How do I put security on my Belkin 54g router

You set your security by enabling WEP.

When you get in the interface to configure WEP, set a pass phrase. Write down the 3 numeric keys it generates. Then connect to the wireless using your laptop, etc. When it asks for your passkey, do not enter the pass-phrase; enter one of the three keys that were generated by the router. That's the biggest mistake people make when trying to get wireless to work.

I have internet with time warner so have linksys router wireless'but when a try to connect to other computer don,t work

First, check to make sure that you can get Internet through a wired connection, if you can't then wireless won't work either. Second, if you can, then try connecting to the wireless without using WEP or any security. You can turn this off by going to in your web browser while wired to the router from your PC and go under wireless security. If you can connect from an unsecured access point then set up a WEP key with a pass-phrase and when you are asked for the pass-phrase from the PC use the the hex key 1 that is generated by the router instead of the pass-phrase. You should have no problem connecting. Thye wizard that comes on the configuration CD will not set up your wireless correctly, you really have to configure the system using the IP.

Neighbors can use our connection to log on to laptop

Consult your users manual for setting up either MAC Address Filtering, which will allow you to enter the physical addresses of your devices (unique like a fingerprint.)

Enabling Wireless Encryption (Wireless Security), which would require you to enter a pass code or pass phrase in order to access your networks assets.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance. If this information was helpful, please take a moment to rate the solution. Thank you.

How do i make my broadband connection secure on my vigor 2600we

The general recommendations for securing a wireless router are:

1) Do not broadcast the SID
2) Use WEP or WPA encryption with a strong pass phrase
3) Use MAC filtering

Each routers admin screens are a bit different but the manual that came with the router should walk you through the steps to configure your router.

Good Luck!!

Mac laptops can't access an open (no security set) Belkin Router

A "locked" wireless means the router is encrypting packets of information as it sends/receives. You would need to enter the 64-bit or 128-bit key which was created by the router when you configured the passphrase to use.

making a wireless connection secure is very easy.
pull up the interface of the router, then look for the wireless tab.
click on the wireless tab and look for the button you can click to enable or disable wireless security..
create a passcode for your network and use that as the pass key whenever the wireless network requires it. i can provide more information if you can give me the brand name of the router you are using.. :-)
