First check your fuel, if it smells stale or smells like paint thinner, your carburetor may need to be cleaned. If the fuel smells ok then you'll need to take the bowl off the carburetor be careful of the bowl gasket, it will probably stay on but when you put the bowl back on be sure it seats evenly around. With the bowl off check to see if there is any water, debris or anything else that don't look like fuel. If your engine is a Tecumseh then you should also check the bowl bolt. Assuming it is a Tecumseh the bolt will be one of 3 different types but what you need to look for is the holes on the bolt, there will be 2 down by the head of the bolt and sometimes 1 real small one at the top of the threads (use a twist tie from a loaf of bread with the paper cleaned off to clean the little hole). If the little hole gets clogged the engine won't run. If everything looks good then put the bowl back on and try it. If there is stuff in the bottom of the bowl the you might want to take the carb . off and clean it and to bee on the safe side while it's off put a new carb. kit in (carb kits usually run about $10 to $15 dollars). sounds like your choke is not shutting all the way. Throttle pushed all the way up should shut the choke, if you can look into the intake of the carb to see if the butterfly is shut and if not loosen the cable sheath clamp and side the cable until it does shut it and make sure the lever is still in the full throttle position

check gas and oil
check blower housing (round part) for ice and snow ( clear if needed)
put gas and choke on full
prime 3 times pull cord or hit electric start
repeat if it doesnt start with priming 3 more times

It's possible that your choke linkage may be the problem. Or the choke is partically on when it's running. A choke is required when it's cold but not required when it's hot. Check the intake of the carburetor to see if the choke butter fly opens all the way when you shut the choke down. Good luck.

My snowblower starts up easy but then it quits


Has it got a shutoff solenoid on the base of the carb? My lawn tractor would run fine for 15 minutes then shut off. Found out it was that solenoid.

Carburetor needle and seat are most likely varnisized. Get a can of Berryman B-12 Chemtool. Put about 3 ounces into a quart of gasoline. Run it until it quits, let it sit for a few hours. Do it again. If it continues to run, still cut it off; let it sit over night. Add a gallon of gasoline and run it out. Put a manual shutoff valve between the tank and filter. BTW, you can't clean a paper gasoline filter,if that's the filter you cleaned.

The Berryman is mostly Acetone. You can use it at teh beginning of the season and the end of the season before you ut it to bed for cold weather. When you put it up shut off the fuel valve with it running and run it until it quits.

Also use StaBil and StarTron enzyme to help keep the linings of fuel system clean of growth. This E-10 can reach "phase separation" much faster than fuels without it.

Snowblower was running for 1 hr. i shut it off when i restarted it ran 1 minute and stoped could not get it started, it it sat for 6 hrs. and started but would not run at higher rpms. it seemed to sputter

From the symptoms you describe it sounds like the low oil sensor is shutting of the ignition.

i.e ran for 1 hour... hot oil... / low oil level ignition cut off. Sat for 6 hours all oil now in crankcase... started and higher rpm sputters....

Check the oil level. Other than that I think everything is fine.

If not please respond with a "make and model" of your snowblower. After that, there is more that we can do to resolve the problem.

I need a manual for a snowblower craftsman 10/30 it doesn't start,i changed the sparkplug and it doesn't chage anything,i change the oil last year,does it need to be changed this year to

Most common problem with snowblowers is clogged carb. Remove spark plug and put a tea spoon full of gas in the plug hole and try to start. If it starts for a sec that is your problem. To get a manual go to searspartsdirect.com you will need the model number to find the correct manual. Model number should start with 917.XXXXXXX.

Engine shuts off after about 10 minutes of use


Try loosening the gasoline cap on the engine. My snowblower acted the same way until a mechanic told me it sounds like the engine is not getting enough air. Some gasoline cap vents go bad and starve the engine. If your engine continues to run you can buy a new gas cap.

Sounds like its flooded. This same exact thing just happened to me.
Suggestion:

Let it sit with the the choke off. After a few hours, try starting it again, but don't mess with the choke (leave the choke set as if it was running hot). By your pulling of the recoil cord, you will be helping to clean out the flooded engine. Don not prime it during this excercise. (only pull the recoil 4 or 5 times).

Then let it sit again for a few hours.

After that waiting period, you should be able to start as normal, use the electroic start to get it going and lest it run, as normal.

You should then be all set.
