Problem for LG KU990 Viewty
LG Viewty (KU990) Memory Card Issue
Right, Where do i start..
I bought an Lg Viewty on orange like 2 weeks ago, Everythings fine with the phone ,, takes pics and videos and saves them to phone memory.
Now as you know 100 meg or so internal memory isnt enough, So i bought a 2GB SD Card.
Now heres the problem.....
The phone recognises the card when i switch it on and i can see all videos, images or what ever saved on it..Now if i try to take a picture and save it to external memory from the camera settings option, I get the message No External Memory. I go to my usb connection settings make sure its on mass storage and primary storage is set on external memory......i go back into my cam then suddenly it lets me save to card ( photos and vids) so heres the next part of the *Effing Annoyin* problem..
I go to media album check out my videos that were recorded from cam and saved to card ...... i press play and i get a black screen for a few seconds then the Error message ** Not Supported ** Then my memory Card disappears and i have to either re click mass storage or turn phone off and on for it to pick up my card again ... How weird and annoying is that ...
Am i missin something, surely you should be able to play your recorded videos straight from your memory card right.....Ive tried formatting it ,, Literally been through every forum on the net.... tried all the suggestions and i can not find a fix .. I love this phone but when it keeps switching to phone memory and then tellin me i dont have a sd card in (when i clearly do ) And not allowing me to play my Camera recorded videos from my card its very annoying ...
I tried another card too, did the same thing ,,, Is this a faulty phone or what ,,, Please help me ...Cheers peeps

- you rekon ?..... If i record a video and tell the cam to save it on card (when it lets me) if i were to drag that .AVI file on to my pc it plays absolutely fine ,,, its just getting the video onto the card from the cam... then playing the video from the card ... soon as i try to play it.. black screen then the horrible ** not supported, Exiting ** Error. then my memory card disappears..... just seems everytime i try to play a video it errors and that triggers the phone to not see the card... then i have too restart it.Jan 18, 2009

- Yeah, I'm Still waiting for phones 4 u to get stock in then they are going to exchange the handset.I think it is a faulty handset because there is litterally nothing that fixes it... I mean maybe if you do all that hacking firmware stuff that mite fix it but i dont mess about with that cause if I damage the phone then the shop isnt going to want to replace it. lol ... So im just going to wait for an exchange.
I tried every setting possible ,, mass storage externam mem... the lot .. say if i record a video at the vga 640 resolution and save it to memory card .(avi file). when i go to media album and play the video off memory card all i get is ..Not supported . if i record a 3GP video to memory card it plays fine.... it jus seems to be the avi files it struggles with..... .But it confuses me because if you record a video to phone memory what ever the file type it plays back absolutely fine ..Weird.... i lost patience with it a long time ago ...if it happens with my new one when i eventually get it im going to chuck it out the window..

- i have the same problem! went into the f*****g Carphone Warehouse today and was told it was probably the memory card, even though I know there is no problem with the card at all... I am so sick of the Carphone Warehouse and their **** customer service and after-sales service. This is the 2nd screwed up phone I've been given by them since December and I had to drag them through the small claims court for 4 months to get a refund on the last one! all they gave me was a credit note and thats the only reason i even bought this phone from them... help- feahenyApr 14, 2009

At first I thought this problem was either related to a faulty handset or external memory card. But I think the solution is much more simple. All I had to do to fix the 'Not Supported' error problem was switch my primary memory source to the external card. It was on the handset while I was experiencing these problems.
I've ran multiple tests and everything appears to be functioning perfectly now. Hope this solves your problem as well.
Conclusion: Memory was bad.

- I replaced the Kingston 2BG Micro SD chip with a SanDisk 2GB Micro SD chip and have not experienced any of my previous problems.Conclusion: Memory was bad.

The default setting for the viewty camera is set as the handset. changing the primary storage setting to external memory does not change this.`Switch the camera on as if you were going to take a picture. Click on the cog wheel in the bottom left hand corner. click on the memory card icon (second to last icon on the left.) Top right will show memory in use. Select external memory and click the save icon below. follow the same process for the video camera. Pics and vids shoild now be saved on your memory card. If you take the memory card out you will have this process again.

Go to the settings menu.
select Memory Manager.
in the bottom left corner of the screen press Format.
This should format your card so it will work in the viewty.
Also in the Memory Manager menu
select Primary storage setting,
and select External Memory.
All your photo's video's will be saved to the card.

Yes i had the same problem when i took mine to the orange shop the man tested my 2
2 GB memory cards & said it did not like the 2GB memory cards so he gave me a 512 MB and it now works fine . I have been through 3 KU990 before this problem was fix so i think they r all like it.

I had tried EVERYTHING with my Viewty, replacing the memory card with another one, formatting both of them etc etc so I rang up Carphone Warehouse customer service and they said bring it back for a refund cos it's a faulty handset. When I went in the guy at the desk was really uncooperative but as soon as I mentioned that I had received confirmation from the head office, he changed it for me. If you can, get it changed!!

HeyHey! I figured it out. I guess...
I bought a 4GB card, and had the same issue where you cldnt take a picture, and the saving location will be changed to the internal memory.
All i did was format the memory card using the format function in the phone itself. It worked for me. Maybe you should try it.

my lg did to me the same thing so i went to the shop, they had it there for about one week and they told me it was a fault in the phone. now it works just fine

did the sandisk card fix the problem? i have verbatim and same issue with videos not playing from the card at all.. funny thing is that it worked couple of times and then stopped.

I am experiencing the same problem. I'm wondering if this issue is a faulty handset or a faulty Kingston 2 BG microSD card... did you get a new handset? And did that solve the issue?
