SOURCE: High pitch/humming noise from Frigidaire Refrig.

You have to isolate this problem. It could be one of three things. The compressor, the condenser fan motor or the water valve that feeds the ice maker and wtaer dispenser. Also if the high pitch sound is compared to that of a bird then it is definitely the condenser motor. To isolate the problem take the back cover off. LISTEN FOR THE HIGH PITCHED/HUMMING NOISE! Use a flash light and see if you can tell where it is coming from while it is doing the noise. Dont try this unless you know what your doing. Stop the condenser fan blade with the end of a hard object, but stop it gradually. Dont try this cause you might brake/bend the blade. But if you did and the noise stop then you figured out your problem. If not ythen disconnect the water valve. It has to doulble harness wires attached to it. if problem still exisit then it has to come from the compressor. Unless you have a warranty then theres nothing no one can do except change it. $300-400 job easily.

On carrier model 25HCB318A300 there are 3 switches to set the defrost time from 30 60 and 90 min. the diagram shows 2 switches. which 2 switches actually set the time. One has on beside it is that included...

Hello
On that model the 30 60 and 90 are times unit will be in defrost.

So depending on how long you feel the need to defrost ,set accordingly.

If this is a refrige usually 30 min is fine.If a freezer 60 min should work.

Making humming noise on and off and not cooling

Unplug the refrig and pull the refrig out and remove the lower panel covering the fan and compressor . On the compressor , is a small box ( overload/relay ) with 2 or 3 wires going to it . This part just plugs onto the side of the compressor . Take your complete model number with you so you get the correct part . If you had given the model number here , I could have given you the pt # . Also clean the coils in the front bottom of refrig , of dust , lint , pet hair , etc , as this could have caused the compressor to get hot and short the overload/relay .

Strange sounds can be deceiving as to their actual location. Your problem could be one of several:

* icemaker
* freezer fan motor
* compressor
* condenser fan motor

The ref makes a noise and the one side is cold

Sounds like you have a bad overload/relay on the compressor . This piece plugs onto the side of the compressor , with 2 or 3 wires going to it . You will have to pull out the refrig , and remove the rear panel . Take your model number with you , when you go to get the part . If you had listed it here , could have given you a part number .

Within a few hours , your freezer will start defrosting , if not already . You may want to find an alternative cooling source , until you get the part(s) . Being sunday , parts houses may not be open .

Model 78182891 Coldspot with excessive water Collecting in Refrig

a plugged or frozen drain is a common problem that occurs from time to time in just about all refrigs so the answer is yes it may occur again in the future. But folllow theses directions and it will probably not occur again for 2-3 years.

  • Unplug refrigerator
  • unload food from freezer
  • remove icemaker if present (there are 3 screws remove the one on the bottom and loosen the 2 on top of icemaker then lift it off the 2 screws unplug from wiring harness)
  • remove 2 screws holding rear cover in place
  • move cover to the side or remove from unit altogether
  • defrost any and all ice from bottom of freezer and aluminum drain pan that is now exposed
  • flush drain hole that you will see once ice is cleared with warm water. (sometimes I use a large syringe or turkey baster to forcefully flush hot water thru the drain tube)
  • reassemble in reverse order
Post back if you have any questions and I'll gladly help you out Thanks Peyton
