NO! there is usually a fan attached to the motor. i have found that junk gets in there and will cause it to viberate. otherwise check the brushroll. there will be connectors on each side with a bearing. if the plastic looks melted, replace the brushroll

Belt continually slips off Riccar upright vacuum

Your 8850 is an old vacuum. If a new belt does not solve the problem it may need a new rubber motor mount or metal pivot. Both parts are inexpensive and available from your Riccar dealer. If it's been a while since it's been serviced it would be wise to have it serviced by your dealer. A Riccar vacuum will last for many years but should be serviced once a year like all vacuums.

I have a Riccar upright vacuum and the belt continually slips off! AARGH! It seems to especially do it anytime you try to vacuum an area rug of any type.

sounds like you need a new belt as the one you have is either been stretched or was the wrong one supplied you can find replacements at most electrical stores ebay or amazon hope this helps

I need to replace the belt on my Riccar supralite vacuum and need instructions

Lay the vacuum upside down, remove the bottom plate, remove the brush roll and belt, install new belt around motor shaft and brush roll, pull on brush roll to stretch belt far enough to drop brush roll back into place.

Riccar 8850 keeps throwing belt

Your vacuum is at least 10 years old. There are some inexpensive parts that can wear or may need adjustment. You have a very durable vacuum that may have many more years of life but Just like a car, needs to be serviced by a trained qualified technician who knows what to look for. It will save you money I the long run.

Replacing a belt on the Riccar 8850...I see how the brush assembly will work with the new belt. But I don't see how a new belt will turn on the small rod extending from the motor. Is there a pully missing?

There is not a pulley missing, when the belt is tight the shaft will turn the belt but when the belt loses elasticity it will slip on the shaft when being used on the carpet. Replace the n
belt at least once or twice per year.

No suction

Replace your belt. Remove the baseplate, remove the brushroll, place a new belt around the motor pulley, then around the pulley on the brushroll, and pull the brushroll back into place in the nozzle. Spin it by hand to make sure it spins, (otherwise you'll break the belt again,) and then replace the baseplate. Party.
