Want to raise the water temp

Stand alone water heaters have temperature controls in different locations.

11_23_2012_12_50_47_pm.jpg
Most residential electric water heaters operate on 240 volts. Please, shut off power first whenever you need open or remove panels for adjustments or servicing.

"Traditional" electric water heaters have them behind removable panels - like the top and bottom gray panel on the water heaters on the right side of the photo. Both panels have adjustable controls behind them and both should be adjusted to the same setting.

Some newer electric water heaters use electronic controls. These may be accessible without removing panels and even have digital displays. Others have controls that are located on the top of the heater - behind a panel. Electronically controlled water heaters may or may not need to be powered on when making adjustments. Check your manual if in doubt.

Gas (propane & natural gas) type water heaters have the temperature control on the gas valve. There are often two controls on the valve, one for the pilot (off, light and on positions) and a second for temperature adjustment.

A tankless water heater built into your home's furnace is controlled by an "aquastat". An aquastat is a fancy term for a thermostat to control water temperature. A typical aquastat is mounted directly on or very near the furnace and looks like this:

11_23_2012_1_08_47_pm.jpg
Inside, are several temperature settings. Here's a photo of the interior of the Honeywell aquastat:

11_23_2012_1_12_16_pm.jpg
The Hi dial should never be set to a value lower than the Lo dial. "Safe" settings are Hi = 180, Lo = 160 and Diferential (above "Lo") = 10. You'll need to tweak these up a bit to make water hotter. You should read more about settings for these aquastats here. Skip down to the section titled "What Settings To Use on a Heating Boiler Aquastat Combination Control"

I hope this helps & good luck!

I believe 640 is typical tank-type atmospheric-vented gas water heater.
Gas water heater problems can get complicated. New heater sells for $350 at local box store.

If thermostat is not controlling temperature accurately, then (1) gas control needs replacement (2) water heater has sediment build-up (3) combustion and burner parts need cleaning. (4) All three things above, plus additional causes such as bad venting or not enough combustion air.

Usually recommended that plumber replace gas control valve thermostat:
See typical tank-type thermostats:

The manual says:

"For the name of the Authorized Distributor or Installer nearest you, please contact your local HVAC dealer or gas service technician, visit the Rinnai website (www.rinnai.us), call Rinnai at1-800-621-9419 or write to Rinnai, 103 International Drive, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269"

Manual says that the remote is for setting temperature.
When you turn on hot water spigot, tankless water heater will heat the water to the set point temperature.
If water heater is not set up to use remote, then tankless unit will heat to 140 degrees F.
"With the MCC-45-4US remote control installed the water temperature is adjustable from 96
to 180°F. The water temperature cannot be set to a temperature other than 140°F
without the use of the MCC-45-4US remote control unit. If you require a temperature
other than 140°F you must install the MCC-45-4US remote control unit."

"Error messages are displayed on the remote control units, simplifying service calls."

Page 9 of manual shows hot to set temperature using remote.
Water taps must be shut off to set temperature.
Circulating pump must be turned off.
"Simply press the H or C button until desired temperature is displayed"
"green in-use indicator will display"

Install trim and adjust the thermostat on a Grohe shower faucet

Before you install the temperature control knob, adjust the valve body (47111) with a wrench to set the temperature to "100 degree or close to it". Now, place the limit ring to tdc (top dead center) and control knob with the red 100-degree align to it. Your problem may have been the valve's temperature setting is out range when you installing the temperature control knob.

A2 error on Bosch tankless water heater

  1. Check continuity of the flue gas limiter (see Fig. 63, page 46 of manual). Go to steps two and three to determine air box temperature sensor fault and replace it.
  2. Check for flue gas leakage around the top and bottom seals of heat exchanger as well as the viewing window.
  3. Check that venting is within specifications (see Section 3.3 of manual). Long vent lengths, venting with more than three elbows, blocked vent or combination venting may cause this failure.
  4. Check that flue gas limiter connector and spade connections are secure.
  5. Unplug heater and check the two main plug connections inside the control board.
