HDMI audio from computer not working, all updated drivers, Sony STRDH520

Long story. Recently moved my PC and hooked it up to my Sony strdh520 receiver of which I also have an xbox, ps3 and HD satellite All audio and video work fine with those. My computer howecer only my video works. It runs windows XP, Realtek HD which has been enabled. My video card is a nvidia geforce gtx 460. I've spend 5 hours, enableing and disabling audio drivers. Most recently I had disabled all audio devices and restarting the computer to try to force the audio to come out the HDMI. Ive also went the the BIOS on startup, that was no help. Please, any other ideas?

SOURCE: Gateway 450rog Audio problem

I have just re-imaged a Gateway 450 ROG for a friend of mine on the website the audio driver is found ( under the heading Sound Downloads. This unzips a list of files C:\cabs\9520522
stac97(security catalog)
stac97(control panel extension)
stac97 (setup information)
stac97(system file)
1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.
3. In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon.
4. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
5. In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Other Devices, and then double-click Multimedia Audio Controller.
6. In the Multimedia Audio Controller Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.
7. In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.
8. In the next dialog box, click Search for the best driver in these locations, and then click Include this location in the search.
9. In the text box, type: C:\CABS\9520522. Click Next.
10. Click Finish.
Now once installed sound only comes from using the headphone jack, the external speakers get a little sound if the volume is turned up to maximum.

Hope this helps

How do I adjust the treble and bass on sony str-dh520?

See EQ Mode on page 59 of the owners manual to set the bass and treble for the front speakers, presumably for 2 channel mode. For multi-channel mode there are several pre-programmed audio modes listed starting on page 43 and music mode starting on page 44.

Blew the fuse then i put an other one and dit it again

Check your speakers. If the impedance is lower than 8 or higher than 16 Ohms (symbol Omega), DON'T USE IT WITH YOUR DEVICE !!!

Anyway, do the following test : unplug all your speakers from the back panel, change the fuse, and turn the Sony on. If nothing happens, you have a problem with one of your speakers.

So you can try to re-plug your speakers (plug with your device off) one by one to see wich one blow the fuse, or open all of them to detect an eventual short-circuit.

Hope this was helpful

Protect mode

This occurs when positive and negative terminal is short circuited. In other words, check your each speaker wires if 2 intertwined wires are connecting to each other creating short circuit. This could also happen on the back panel of the receiver where wires are plugged into each terminal. Basically, PROTECTED MODE display occurs to protect system from getting harmful internal damage. Hope you discover the culprit wires.

Strdh520 receiver keeps saying protected and shuts off

Have it unplugged for a while, ....

While unplugged note down the speaker wirings, and disconnect all.

Power it up, If it returns to normal, Be glad.

Put back speakers one at a time to find the cause.

If still the same problem, .....

It needs servicing.

Receiver won't play music from an MP3 device

Use your computer speaker as the sound device or use a headphones.

If it sounds good, it could just be your cable that goes to the receiver.

( using a Y cable to connect to one of the regular audio inputs.)

or have one like these:

I cannot get sound from my sony tv (ldl 40bx420) to play through my strdh520 blue ray sony bdp s580 sends a nice signal through it to the speakers.....I have tried every tip in the manual to try to...

Depends on your sources and connections. If you have Cable Box, DSS, FIOS, etc. Audio would be from Coaxial or Digital Optical from the respective source. You would need to check the Audio settings on the Cable Box, DSS, etc. If you are using Cable or off-air, direct from the TV, it would be connected from the analog audio (rca) or Digital Optical output from the TV and The Audio out setting on the TV should be set to Fixed. On the Sony Receiver, make sure all inputs in settings menu for audio are set to auto. Hope this helps, if you still have a problem, post a reply/comment with any other equipment you have connected between TV & Receiver

It depends what kind of output connections you have on the turntable.

Are they standard RCA connectors?

No sound when using HDMI cable

There a few options you can check: first of all, try to hook an audio cable to the TV. Some laptops do not support hdmi as audio output.
also, I would try to check if your hdmi audio device is set in your audio controls. Appaarently, in most cases the laptop speakers are playing by default, which means you will have to set the hdmi audio yourself. Right click on the volume control icon in your desktop (minimized icons, to your right), then go to playback devices (depends on your windows of course), then check if the hdmi is active or not.

No sound on pc connection

HDMI outputs from devices such as DVD players do carry both video and audio, but the HDMI output from your computer video card only carries video. You'll need to connect a cable from the computer sound output to the TV as well.
