Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System
We own a whirlpool side by side, approximately 5 years old. I served a couple glasses of water and someone noticed that there was "worm" like clear debris floating in the water. This had previsouly happend once before, and I changed the filter and it was fine. But, now I've changed it twice (at $35 each!) and still have the same semi-translucent ribbon that floats in the water. Our tap water is fine. I disconnected the fridge and ran water into a pitcher without problems, but when it runs through the water dispenser, I have the ribbon in the water that comes out. I've ran at least 5 gallons of water through each of the two new filters in the last 5 days, and still have the problem.
Sounds like the plastic from the icemaker is chipping off the unit in the ice making process.
If your water is running clear except through the refrigerator that is my suggestions. Although normally the plastic color is blackish.

SOURCE: Water has debris floating in it
Sounds liek you have a hard water problem. That debris is more than likey limescale and hard water build up. A filter does not always remove it all. You need to get a water softener.

Our problem is the water that comes from the water dispenser. When we melt the ice, it is fine.
Our problem is in the water that comes through the dispenser on the door. The ice is fine, at least when we melt it.
We are also experiencing this problem.
When pouring a glass of water, an organic-like translucent debris is present. This size of the debris is between a millimeter and a centimeter. If I run enough water through (like into a two liter bottle), the water is clear again for the next glass or two.
I suspect a build-up in the water line may be the cause.
