Did the machine come with the restore disks, and is that what you installed from? What is the name of the driver file, and where is it from? How does the machine connect to the internet?

If the driver file name ends with .zip you will need to unzip it to install it.

No, I don't think you're stupid, and I don't mean to insult you. But from where I sit, I have no idea whatsoever what your expertise is other than what you reveal here. And anybody can come to this forum regardless of what they may or may not know.
Did your file install? any indications in the device manager regarding the realtek device?

If possible, try to do a system restore. It will return your system to an earler date when everything worked. I had to do a restore recently on one of my PCs and it worked.

Can't install wireless network adaptor on emachines 5260. I used to connect to the internet using the wireless adaptor until I re-installed the windows xp operating system due to other problems, and...

Your machine was difficult to track down. As far as I can tell, the 5260 is the Intel motherboard. Below is a link to a page where you can individually download the drivers you require. Best of luck!

I put xp on my Emachine W3615 and nothing works now

See if you could get Ubuntu Linux. This operating system, should work out of the box. If you can get the CD, you could also try using it without actually installing it.

I just installed windows xp on a emachines model

You actually don't need an executable or a setup file to install the driver. When you unzip the set of files, put them on a location on your C:\ drive where you'll know your'll find them like c:\drivers\ethernet (just as an example) Go into device manager and under the device driver for the ethernet controller, right click and then go to "Update Driver." When you get the Hardware Update Wizard, select, "No, not this time" and choose "Install from a list or specific location." Check the "Include this location in the search:" and then browse to the directory where you extracted the files.i.e c:\drivers\ethernet\ and click next until the wizard finishes installing the driver.

I hope that makes sense if you need further clarification please reply back to this post. Please don't rate me until I help you resolve your issue. I will help you resolve it.

Installation windows xp emachine t5082

You must find "eMachine" XP USB drivers for your computer.
If all USB support is "enabled" in BIOS, the conflict is with drivers.
XP is loaded with many generic drivers, however eMachines is proprietary and requires eMachine drivers for most on-board hardware.

Contact eMachines support to locate the drivers (if available).
