By-pass the camera all together. Buy a USB SD/mmc-take the chip out of the camera and insert it in the USB case, plug it into the computer then the USB and TADA - photos on your computer.

I actually took the camera to an expert photo shop and was informed by a professional photographer to do this. Am VERY happy now since no one has had an answer to the problem stated.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

SOURCE: Powershot A430 canon camera battery problem

Alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pics in a digital camera. Some may have reached their shelf life, and though brand new may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Retailers sell these for around $7 for a package of four (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

SOURCE: CANON IXUS 75 Cannot upload photos to pc anymore!

OK, I'VE GOT ONE IDEA THAT MIGHT WORK. IT'S WORTH A TRY. DO THIS. TURN YOUR COMPUTER OFF> CONNECT YOUR CAMERA>TURN THE CAMERA ON>THEN, TURN YOUR COMPUTER ON AND SEE IF YOUR COMPUTER WILL RECOGNIZE IT THEN. THIS SHOULD CAUSE THE COMPUTER TO RECOGNIZE THE CAMERA. GOOD LUCK AND I HOPE THIS WORKS! IF YOU NEED MORE HELP,REPLY TO ARCLIGHT1217.

You don't need any special software.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. My new Canon G11, purchased in August,2010: 1) The camera cord (to load photos from camera to computer) is no longer interfacing, but the card works (I don't think it is the software as it malunctions on...

It sounds to me like one or more of the wires in the cord has broken, or there is a problem with the USB port on the computer. Try swapping to the other ports to see if the problem goes away before going forward.

If the problem is present on all ports and the camera is still under warranty, I would suggest contacting Canon directly and let them solve the problem.

You could also try purchasing / borrow a cable that fits if you want to save time without a camera / dealing with Canon.

Good luck!

Trying to download my pictures from Canon Powershot A430 onto my new laptop Windows 7. Downloaded the disk and now trying without success to download my pictures onto the computer. Help??

Supported windows Operating system Windows 98 Second edition(SE)
Windows Me
Windows 2000 Service pack 4
Windows XP SP 1 and SP 2 Canon PowerShot A430 has no update about the new driver software for windows 7 Try doing this direct transfer in your computer 1. Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable of your camera. 2. Set the mode dial to (playback) and turn on the power.
The camera and computer will be able to communicate. 3. If there is no pop up window that has Canon CameraWindow, Click the [Start] menu and select [all Programs] or [Programs]. followed by [Canon Utilities], [Camera Window], [PowerShot-IXY-IXUS-DV 6] and [CameraWindow] 4. Download the images.
* Download the images using the camera or the computer.
* By default, the downloaded images are saved into the [My Pictures] folder. ** If the above process does not work you can just use the memory card of your camera and connect that on your laptop. (some laptop has built in card reader) The memory card works like a flash drive and you can just transfer files like transferring from one folder to another. ** Issue on the operating system compatibility.
