If your transferring the video via USB then with Sony Cams you will need to download the drivers and install them (the sony website or google with normally have them)... then restart you computer and attempt to capture again using WMM.

PP seems corrupt, try reinstalling it and/or look at troubleshooting. if still f**ked then try rolling back your drivers to your camcorder and reinstalling them with a clean package.

- if you need details with rolling back drivers, google it.

Connect JVC GR-D240ek to vista laptop

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A firewire to USB will not work. It has to be firewire to firewire. A JVC GR-D240ek uses 4-pin, IEEE 1394 compliant Digital Video Connector [DV OUT] to connect a 1394 cable (also known as a FireWire or i.Link cable) to a laptop equipped with an equivalent IEEE 1394 port. Please note that some laptops firewire port could either be 4 pins or 6 pins.
74dac6f.jpg
Soon as that connection as shown above is established, you can use Windows Import Video to capture / download the videos.

Other notes (from the same Windows Help link above) :
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Movie Maker. After you connect ... your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Movie Maker, turn on your DV camera, put it into playback mode, and Windows Import Video should open automatically.
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Photo Gallery. After you connect ...your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Photo Gallery, turn on your DV camera, and put it into playback mode. In Windows Photo Gallery, click File, click Import from Camera or Scanner, click your DV camera in the list of devices, click Import, and then follow the instructions.
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Live Photo Gallery. (This options requires you to install Windows Live on your computer.) After you connect your...your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Live Photo Gallery, turn on your DV camera, and put it into playback mode. In Windows Live Photo Gallery, click File, click Import from a camera or scanner, click your DV camera in the list of devices, click Import, and then follow the instructions.
Verify that the laptop's firewire port is 100% up to specs and totally compliant to IEEE 1394.

God luck and thank you for using FixYa.

JVC GR-D70u don't transfer video to pc

At times the "failed to build a preview graph" error measage appears when the editor has a problem with the capture file format. By STUIO 8 I presume you mean PINNACLE STUDIO 8? Try changing your capture settings, like MPEG to AVI or vice versa.
Otherwise download the latest patch for Studio 8 from www.pinnaclesys.com . It's free if you have registered your copy of the software.
Let's hear from you again. All the best.

Problem in video capturing through firewire

Hi Sreeki,
You may have solved this problem already but I had the same problem some time ago, so the advice will be a little vague.

From memory the issue is something to do with corruption of a directx file so you could just try re-loading directx.

But the way I found a solution was to try and capture video using windows movie maker and you will find the video capture also fails using this software. However, windows returns an error message (which I cannot remember), and I did a search on Google or something for this error message and eventually found the solution.

It was related to directx and there was a small file that had to be run to repair it.

Hope this helps and I will continue searching for the problem I am now having with my camera not accepting a tape and returning the error message relating moisture......

Still Pictures

the still pictures are actually single frame MPEG movies with 7 seconds of audio. You should capture them the same way you get movies off the tape into the PC and just capture the frame.

I am having problems with my PixLab software. What should I do?

Common PixLab Problems and Solutions The software will not start up. • Is the software correctly installed? See the section on “installing and uninstalling software” and ensure that the software is installed correctly. The connection is not stable. Are you running software that frequently issues interrupts at the same time? • If you are running software such as Internet browsers and E-mail programs at the same time as the PixLab TWAIN, you should quit those programs before you start up PixLab TWAIN. If your PC is connected to a LAN or a special in-house network, communication faults may arise due to forced interrupts. Are any power-saving measure settings active? • On some PC models, communications can be interrupted when the PC’s power saving (power management or “Sleep” mode) measures cut in. Refer To the Owner’s Manual for your PC and switch off any power-saving functions before you start up PixLab TWAIN. Are you running utilities such as a battery monitor at the same time? • If your PC has a resident battery monitor program, delete the monitor program before you start up PixLab TWAIN. Try using a lower connection speed. • Select “ Communication Settings” in the “Option” menu and set the connection speed in the dialog box to “9600”. If the connection is stable at that speed, gradually increase the speed until you find the fastest speed at which the connection is stable. The PC and the camcorder will not communicate at all. 1 Is the camcorder and PC correctly connected? • Check that none of the cables are disconnected and that all the components are switched. Is the correct communications port selected? • Check “Serial and COM Port Settings” to make sure that they are correct. A Communication Error dialog box appears. (1) Without changing the settings, try to reconnect by clicking on the Retry. (2) If repeated attempts to connect are unsuccessful, click on the Settings and try changing the communications settings. • Change the “Serial Port” setting to another COM port and try connecting again. If you try all the COM ports without success, the serial connection may be assigned to a COM port. • Lower the “Connection Speed” setting and try again. Begin at “9600” and work upwards from there to find the fastest speed at which the connection is stable. images can not be captured. If the” PixLab cannot currently transfer images from the camera” message appears and images cannot be captured, check the items listed below. If any of these conditions apply to the camcorder, images cannot be captured. Camera Mode • The Digital Zoom is being used. (The Digital Zoom icon [ D] is displayed on the LCD panel. • The SEPIA or MOSAIC Picture Effect is set to “ON”. • The camcorder is recording. • Edit Search is in progress. VCR Mode • The camera is set to “Stop”, “Fast Forward” or “Rewind”. 2 • Playback Zoom is being used. • The SEPIA or MOSAIC Picture Effect is set to “ON”. • The camcorder is in Audio Dubbing mode. Transferring analog to DVD

I envisage two options for you: 1. Install a video capture card in your pc. Choose one that has ports that match your analog camcorder ports. Best option: Separate capturing using S-video + a separate audio connection. Common and simpler option: Campture "composite" video using one video + one audio jacks. You don't need a new camera to make DVDs from your analog tapes. 2. Buy a pass-through (must be this type, not all digital cameras have this function!) digital camera. Connection and flow: analog camera (or your analog VHS VCR)to digital camera (via RCA cables); digital camera to pc (preferably using Firewire)- all simultaneously. Here, the digital camera will perform the function of a capture card. You will certainly need a software to capture via capture card/pass-through digital camera to your pc hard disc. Your captured video on pc can be initially in AVI/ DV AVI(better options to edit) and then convert to MPEG2 (DVD) format, or directly in mpeg format (with poor editability). Frame size (capture resolutions) should be as big as possible. In any case you will need some basic knowledge on digital video, capturing, and editing. And all the nitty-gritty that you will need to know can be found somewhere like "Digital Video Primer" and "DVD Primer".
