Ok - we can do this for a hundred years or we can try something different. Do you have the original disk? What is the operating system? What is the brand and model of the pc? How old is it? How long has the problem been going on? Do you know how to boot to safe mode? Let me know any or all of the answers. Gary

Gary, It is a Dell Studio One, can't see any other marking on it. Runs on Windows 7. Tried to to go to boot to safe mode, but got the same result. Have the Dell recovery disk that came with the machine, which was going to be my next move, but wanted to check if anyone had the same problem and how it was fixed. Thanks for your time anyway.

Try booting with only the basic hardware - remove all printers etc -
If you are having a hardware issue -and it is a sudden thing you have hardware issues.

Remove all but one memory stick and see if it boots - if now - remove the one memory stick and place the other one in. If you know you're way around - go to boot the machine and as it starts - hit the delete key and keep hitting it until it goes into the DOS mode. Check the date that is set there. If it isn't that days date set it to that day. Keep settings and continue the boot.

SOURCE: ejecting cd dell studio 17

It's very annoying they don't tell you how to do this. I looked here for the solution, then found it myself.

You have to depress the blue Fn key and simultaneously depress F10. Notice that that key has a blue "eject" symbol on it.

Try reseating the video card in your new computer. Sounds like it may not be seating in the slot properly. Take it out and put it back in with the power off and then hook everything back up and then see if you get video,.

SOURCE: My Dell Studio One 1909 soft touch eject button

Try downloading the ODD Eject Button Software from dell:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WLH&catid=-1&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=STUDIO1909&hidos=BIOSA&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False

Be sure you are on Vista 32bit not Windows 7(even though you are running windows 7, vista drivers should work under windows 7).

It is located under "Input Device Drivers"

Give that a shot.

if you have xp they try this:-

Try system restoring it by going to the date that it worked. Just type it in the search box on your start menu and go to it and follow directions.
