Question about Hitachi Televison & Video
Have no testing equipment but have changed fuse in plug and checked cable for damage, none found. Have bypassed power switch with no result. Is there any way of (safely) testing power is reaching the board without investing in an ammeter?
You can pick up a cheap multimeter at radio shack, or Harbor Freight (if one is in your town). Or of you know someone who has a multimeter you could borrow, that would be even better. You will want to set your meter to ac volts, and check for 110vac across the input terminal on the power supply board. I'm willing to bet you have a dead power supply.

check out this website:
I got one of these tvs from a co-worker who didn't want to try to fix it. I stumbled across this brilliant person's work and ordered the small chip from a place in san fran. it was here in 3 days, i carefully soldered in the new chip (not at all easy, be careful not to pull up the contacts on the circuit board when you remove the burnt one) and the tv has been working fine ever since. only $20 with shipping.

hello my friend, check the power supply first, probably a fuse, but if the fuses are good you have to call the repairman.
ps. i have the same tv brand new in the box with the screen broken so if you need any parts let me know

check power supply capacitors..i repair these every day and the power supply is prone to faulty capacitors..the capacitors should have flat tops and if they are bulging or leaking brown fluid, replace
