I will need to know some things. Is the phone a part of the receiver?
does the phone have wires coming out of it?
What is the brand name of all the different components?
How old is the unit?
Does the phonograph have a needle in it?
Does the rest of the unit work like it should?

Thanks

Connect the RCA phono plug wires usually red and white wires with plugs to a receiver or amplifier in the back of it to phono in. New receivers will not work unless you have a phono preamp. Best to buy a vintage stereo receiver or amplifier with the correct connections. Make sure you connect the ground wire which is usually a small black wire coming from the turntable to an receiver or amplifier. Turn the stereo receiver on phono. Connect it to any screw attached to metal on back or look for a ground screw. If you do not attach it it will hum.

Whats the yellow wire

The yellow wire is for composite or rca phono type video connection.
Red and white are for stereo left and right audio. These are standart color codes to avoid confusion. Yellow is video. But these colored wires are all the same and can be used interchangeably if connected to their respected ins and outs.

I have connected Pioneer PL-990 turntable to SX-255R receiver through PHONO but get static and distortion through speakers. Manual says to connect to AUX not PHONO but cannot see AUX on receiver. Any...

You need to hook it up to another analog input other than the phono input. The record player has a built in preamp, and the receiver's phono input has a separate preamp for non-amplified players. You cannot have the two hooked to each other.

How to hook up a turntable to a pioneer vsx-1019

receivers with a PHONO input can connect a turntable easily by just connecting the white and red stereo audio cables from the turntable to the phono inputs on the receiver. receivers without a PHONO input can still connect a turntable by using a phono-preamp whose output can connect to any analog stereo input on the receiver like CD or AUX. My Pioneer PL-990 Turntable only outputs sound through the white wire. Only a quiet buzz comes through the red wire.

The red wire is the right channel, so going back to your amp, get a single phono plug with with the wire exposed, so you can touch the wire. Then remove the turntable connections. With the amp on plug the the lose wire plug into each channel and check if the sound on the right is still low. If it is then there's a problem with the magnetic cartridge pre-amp inside the amp. They are often located near the phono socket on a seperate PC board, but if not just follow the red wire to the main board. Chances are it will be an IC that's failed.
If it has a strong buzz at the back of the amp. Then I should replace the wire between the turntable and the amp. Or the right phono plug that connects to the amp.

Hi...
If the new receiver doesnt have a specific input in back labeled "phono" , You WILL need a preamp for the phono. Then plug the preamp into the AUX or other available input

depends what audio outputs you have on the sky box, analogue (two phono usually red for right channel and white left channel)in which case just use phono leads to the phono inputs,Optical(toslink),connect an optical cable from the output to the optical input on the dvd channel of the pioneer, coaxial (spdif)connect to spdif input on the laser disk input of the pioneer, dont connect to the attenuated spdif. In the unlikeley event of the sky box not having any audio outputs, just use the outputs from the tv to the pioneer. The optical digital input gives the best quality on the vsa eo6
