Maytag Legacy washer MAV408DAWW loud noise, dumped all water

Maytag Legacy series washer MAV408DAWW was making a loud sound while spinning, before I got to scheduling a repair. It dumped an entire load full of water out the bottom of the machine. Is it fixable, any ideas on what is broken?

Tub bearings and seal have failed. My SAV405DAWW just started with the loud grinding and I am now in the process of finding out if I can fix it myself. Kurt

The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.

Mav408daww washer knocking sound, won't spin all the water out..

Hi,

Remove any kinks in the drain hose. Ensure that the washer is not sitting on the hose.

Inspect the household drain. Remove clogs, if possible. Call a plumber if you cannot remove the clogs.

Check the drain and make sure there is an air gap between the hose and drain. An air gap is necessary to prevent the drain hose from siphoning water.

Clean the pump filter. Open the pump access door. Turn the pump filter counter-clockwise and remove it. Remove dirt and debris. Replace the filter and close the pump access door.

Rearrange the clothing in the load. An unbalanced load can prevent the washer from spinning or draining.

Allow the washer to cool down for two hours. If the washer overheats, it will stop the motor and cool down before restarting.

Close the door completely. The washer will not operate if the door is not securely closed.

I hope the above helps.

Take care.

Washer is making loud noises when it spins and is leaking from the bottom

Your main centre bearing is defective caused by the inner hub and seal from developing a leak. I must admit these repairs are not your normal type of repair.Machine needs to be totaly stripped and wiring disconnected to gain access to components and repair. Suggest you look at 3 quotes and see what price they are asking.

I have a maytag legacy series, toploading washer. It does fine, until it spins...a very loud screaching sound. Could this be a belt?

most likely your problem is in the pump either the pump itself is bad or there is something jammed in it, remove and inspect pump replace with new one if necessary.

Making an awful ratcheting noise during aggitation and spin cycles

Under the agitator there is a rachet mechanism that works the agitator. If it is stripped, it will skip until the next good tooth.. when it fails entirely the agitater will stop going back and forth. Its nylon and age along with overloading hastens its dearg.. If you can get the parts you can replace it yourself without difficulty. There is a single bolt in the center of the agitator top . Remove and loft agiyator straight up.

My MAV408DAWW top load washer makes a loud whiring sound during the spin cycle. Many times I have to start it spinning by moving the basket.

Sounds like you need to replace the clutch. You can download a tutorial for this at www.shop.washermd.com. Thanks Dave

Maytag legacy load spin cycle

It is your main bearing, I don't recommend doing it yourself. You will need a special spanner wrench that you'll use only once. To see an exploded view go to Sears Parts
