The diode is in the loom close to the clutch wiring block, it bridges the live and earth wire.

Check your seat adjustment to make sure you're applying constant pressure to the safety switch under the seat.

Check proper belt routing. These models are a little tricky. Also check tensioner spring.

SOURCE: Craftsman riging mower will not charge. Son hooked

if it is a briggs engine it is in the wiring harness coming off the alternator, where it plugs into the main harness coming out of the dash area. it will appear as a lump in the wire [sometimes there will be two diodes]. if it is a kohler, it will be in the wiring harness under the shroud covereing the flywheel

yes it is a bad belt unless it is a hydro-stat(no clutch) you need to look under the mower and see if the belt is on correctly

FS5500, electric clutch spins when engaged breaking wires

Not sure of exact clutch retaining method in this model but most clutches are located in position by a pin or a plate bolted or welded under the chassis. Have a close look as the locater has probably broken off. Regards Phil

The mower runs fine till you engage the blades then it goes dead

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. Take a look at the pedal switch wiring. Also check the foot switch to make sure it is NOT grounding when you ease the pedal to it's normal resting position. This is the most common problem however..... Underneath in the clutch area make sure that the clutch wires are not grounded. There is a diode in the PTO clutch and if the diode fails it will present this symptom. Read the Black to Purple stripe wire on the clutch in BOTH directions. One way it should read open the other way it should read like a wire. Most of the time it the blade is engaging and the mower dies it is either the foot switch or a wire in the PTO Clutch area that is grounded.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
