You can test the temp sensor. It should read around 1100 ohms at room temp. Post back the results.

Can hear the clicking of the auto starter when starting the oven, but it stops after 5 seconds and then the oven simply fills with gas. Broiler still works fine as do the stove top burners. Any thoughts?

Good question? You may have a plugged up burner and or the pipes or jets may not be adjusted correctly and it could be your igniter on the gas range because it is not igniting the spark to create the flame. You may want to have it check out with an authorized service repair tech to make sure it is safe and will function well. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local appliance dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

I have the same problem intermittently on my Super Cap 465. After reading the following quote from another site, "There have been cases where radio waves, electronic signals and sometimes something as strange as dimmers in lights have caused some weird problems with some computer panels in stoves like these", I tries turning off lights that might be on the same circuit and wouldn't you know it, the oven igniter circuit worked.

SOURCE: whirlpool gas oven sf315pemb1- oven not heating

Hi, It sounds like the ignitor has gone bad. Remove the floor panel in the oven and locate the ignitor fastened to the burner. There should be 120V going to the ignitor harness.
If you have voltage but no ignition, change the ignitor.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

IGNITER

If your gas oven is not heating, the igniter is the most likely the cause. This is a simple gas oven repair. To check the igniter, remove the storage drawer and the bottom of the oven (only if you are working on the bake burner). Now turn on the oven and observe, from a distance, the burner that is not heating. In a minute or so the igniter should glow red. If not, unplug power from oven. Then unplug the igniter and using your ohmmeter ,check to see if you have continuity between the two wires going to the igniter. If you don't have continuity, replace the igniter. If you do have continuity the igniter is still the likely problem, If you turned on the oven and the igniter did glow red, the igniter still is most likely the problem. This video will walk you through properly testing an oven igniter. You have to have an amp meter to check for sure, but I would not suggest buying an amp meter just to check this because 99% of the time its going to be the igniter. So I suggest just replacing the igniter. For those of you that already have an amp meter, clamp the amp meter on one of the wires going to the igniter then turn on the oven. If your igniter is round, the amp meter should read 2.6 to 3.0. If you have a flat igniter then the amp meter should read 3.3 to 3.6. If the amps are not in this range, the gas valve will not open to release gas to the igniter. To repair this, replace the igniter.

BURNER CLOGGED

This is another simple gas oven repair and it's one thing you may need to check before you change any parts. The burner has a lot of small holes that connect the flame all the way around the burner. If one of these small holes is stopped up, the burner will not light properly. To repair this, simply use a large needle or thin wire to clean each hole out. Note that this is not a very common problem but if this does fix your oven, it will save you a lot of money.

GAS VALVE

If your gas oven is not heating, the gas valve may be your problem. If your igniter isn't bad then the gas valve is the problem. This is a very uncommon failure in most ovens. But this is not a simple gas oven repair and it's best if this is changed by a professional because if the gas valve leaks it can be a major fire hazard and you have to adjust the valve to the kind of gas you are using.

Main Control

This is the last thing to check. If you have no power to the igniter when the oven is turned on the main control is the likely problem. On glowbar style igniters if you have no reading and there is continuity of the igniter replace the main control. On ovens with electronic igniters (these are the ones that click) these ovens have a separate spark control module that sends the power to the igniter. This can be difficult to check but in general if you have no power reaching the igniter the spark module or igniter module (there are many different names for this part) would need replacing.

Stove top burners work but when the oven is turned on it looks like the pilot light will glow but will not ignite the oven

Hello,

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake igniter is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve. If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake igniter(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when oven is set to bake by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of igniter make sure only one wire, either one and not both.
if amp draw less than 3.3-3.6 amps replace bake igniter. I know it seems improbable that if the igniter comes on that it could be the problem.Professional appliance technicians who would charge a average of $250.00 to repair your oven, have found when the igniter comes on yet the oven won't heat that a weak igniter is the cause 100% of the time

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Oven won't light, but the stove top burners are fine. Don't smell any gas or any indication the oven is attempting to light....

next time send the brand name and model number so i can look up your machine,if it's a gas stove most likely it will be a bad ignitor, even if the ignitor glows it still could be bad,if the flame doesn't ignite and the ignitor is glowing change it out,if it isn't glowing pull out the ignitor and check it with a meter, common problem.

The oven burner will not ignite.

Because the glowbar is glowing does not necessarily make it good.
Turn off the gas to the stove. Remove the oven racks. Remove the bottom oven pan. Remove the flame spreader. This gives you access to the glow bar and gas valve.
Put a clamp on amp meter around one wire of the glowbar. Turn the oven control on to BAKE.
If the glowbar reads 3 amps or less, replace the glowbar ignitor.
If the glowbar reads good, check the burner tube for a white ash buildup. It can be cleaned with a wire brush. Look closely near the glowbar section of the burner.
Check all the wire connections for the gas valve.
If the glowbar is good and the ash deposits are gone and the oven still will not ignite, the next step is to replace the gas safety valve.

GE Spectra gas stove

Hi, There is a glow igniter that has to glow and open the gas valve to ignite the flame.
Are you seeing any glow below the floor of the oven? Remove the floor on=f the oven and you will see the igniter. If you have a voltage meter, You can remove the ignitor from the manifold ans test it. Put your meter leads into the connection and turn the oven on, (ONLY long enough to see if you have 120V.
If there is voltage, replace the igniter. They can still glow but be bad. The igniter gets weak and will not open the gas valve. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Burners on gas stove work but oven and broiler not working

Most ovens, unless they have an electric igniter (does it go tick tick tick when plugged in and turned on? If so, it has an electic ignition.) have a pilot light. In order to keep gas from flowing out, and to prevent a possible explosion when the pilot light has gotten put out, they have an electric thermocouple on them that shuts off the gas when it gets cold. Plug the cord back in, and relight your pilot light by holding the lighter (I recommend a fireplace match or bbq lighter, not a cigarette lighter to prevent singed knuckle hairs!) over the thermocouple for a couple of minutes.
