SOURCE: necchi sewing machine

i repair a lot of sewing machines as a hobby .. the necchi is one of the better ones .. they are easy to use and work well .. i almost always dontate the repaired machines to places like "womens shelter" .. "home for troubled girls" or just give them to someone that has nothing or cant afford new machines ... it sometimes makes a difference in their life if someone helps them get started .. modern machines vary from really cheap junkers that somehow work to really expensive machines that do everything but are completely out of reach for many.. the old necchis are better than many new machines but no one knows that .. so typically they sell for only $20 to $50 ... but if you donate a working machine to someone it can help, then its worth it weight in gold ..

Are you looking for a light weight machine? New machine aren't as heavy as old ones - no steel parts. Look at amazon or other web site. They should tell shipping weight. .Carry a bag of that weight up the stairs b4 buying a machine- can you make it? That way you're not buying .something you can't carry

Looking for a second hand sewing macine i want to buy second hand sewing machine

Not sure what your question is; are you looking for a Juki second hand machine? If so, you should try Ebay, Gum Tree Craig's list or join a Yahoo group where owners may list their machines for sale.

If you are looking for recommendation of a second hand machine to buy, then I would suggest that you go test drive some machines at dealerships and also write down a list of key features you are looking for. Most new sewers will look for a machine that gives them a range of practical stitches and a buttonhole but is easy to operate. But pricepoint is often the key purchase driver and sometimes paying a little more to get a stronger machine is worth the investment if you are going to be using this machine for the next 10-20 years.

If you buy a second hand machine you need to know that it is in good order, serviced recently and that parts and accessories are available for it. Try it out through all the stitches and have a good look at the stitch it makes; does the tension look even, is it sewing the widest zig zag or is it skipping stitches.

If I was to buy a 2nd hand machine I'd look for a Swiss made mechanical machine such as a Elna Star Series SU, or a mechanical Bernina 830, 1003 or something similar. I see these come up on ebay from time to time, just hunt for a local one and go look at it rather than take a risk and bid without trying it.

But everyone has a preference; often based on what they used or saw their mum or nan sewing on and there are lots of other good brands out there. However, if you want lots of stitches, alphabet and 6 buttonholes, you are going to have to go computerised; not so easy to fix yourself obviously and can be expensive for electronic components if they go. So look for a model that isn't too old so parts will still be around for it.

Which is a better machine model8280 or 1507?

I don't know which features you are looking for but these are very basic machines, I think that I would go for a better model than either of these. I bought a Singer Stylist 7258 for $200 from JoAnn Fabrics and got a free lesson on it, plus lots of tips on usage. I really prefer to buy from people who know machines as opposed to big box stores because you can get help when you have a question. Sometimes going to a better model is well worth the extra because you cannot upgrade a cheap machine to a better one and if you buy one with some easy features you will sew more, with no frustration even if you have to put it on lay away to be able to afford it and pay a little each week.

I have been given an old Janome sewing machine. The cord looks unsafe and it doesn't have a presser foot. Is it worth getting parts for?

If, you go to , they sell cords etc for Janome, just know your model number and you probably can buy a manual too. They usually run about $35.00. Another suggestion, would be to take it to Sears sewing machine section and see if they have a Janome there, and will they let you try their cord. If, they will, you know that it is the problem and more than likely worth putting the money into it because you cannot buy a decent machine for that.

Hi, I have an old Singer sewing machine serial No Y7734152. I think this was made in Clydebank in 1930. Could you confirm and what value it might be. It is in excellent condition, with arched carry box....

Unfortunately they are not worth a lot, there are thousands still about but people do think they are worth a lot of money, if you look on ebay you will see what I mean.
