It's either on the top of the radiator or you will have to remove the top hose connection where it enters the radiator and slowly fill through that opening with a funnel and hose or tube until it begins to overflow, replace the hose, then fill the overflow reservoir and keep an eye on it's level for several days.

I haven't seen one without a filler cap before but I've heard comments about them being eliminated or difficult to locate on newer models.

The one on my Nissan Frontier is only about a big around as a quarter...

I have a 1986 Chevy Silverado with a 350 engine, why does my top radiator hose keep collapsing?

The hose collapses because there is air in the cooling system. If the system is properly full, the hose cannot collapse because water does not compress. If there is a leak in the system, you need to repair it, refill and bleed the cooling system, and ensure that the reservoir has a proper level of coolant in it. If there are no leaks in the system, then the reservoir (recovery) bottle could be low on coolant, allowing air into the system during the expansion and contraction that occurs as the coolant heats and cools. Another thing that can cause this issue is a defective/worn out radiator cap. I would recommend replacement of the cap, refill and bleed the cooling system, then top off the reservoir and then monitor for any further issues.

Air in lines for cooling system of 95 nissan maxima

Hello Michelle, my name is Michael and I too had air in the cooling system and this is how I got it out. I had to raise the front end to where the middle of the front bumper was about 40 inches. I removed the radiator cap and immediately had ton add more coolant till it was visibly full at the radiator filler neck. Make sure the cap on the overflow reservoir is on tight. Now start the car and observe the filler neck because you will probably have to add more coolant. once it is full turn on the heater to the max position and direct it to the feet and econ. you should see a lot of bubbles coming from the radiator filler neck. That is the air being purged from the system. make sure you fill with coolant as needed. Now when the t-stat opens you'll see the coolant drop from the filler neck because it's being exchanged from the engine block do not add coolant at this point. Put the radiator cap back on and remove the screw holding the overflow reservoir and raise the reservoir above the radiator and squeeze the tube to get the air out of the tube. Once the air is out and the tube is filled with coolant put the reservoir back in place and fill with coolant to the FULL mark. Shut off the engine lower vehicle and let the engine cool down and remove the radiator cap and fill with coolant till it is visibly full and replace the radiator cap. I had to do this twice but it worked and my car is operating at normal temperature and with the same stroke took care of a few other problems. Hope this helps and good luck to you.

Just a guess but I think their diagnosis was that the head and head gasket was not leaking and not a source of the bubbles you spoke of.
Usually when the head or head gasket is leaking, a unusual amount of water will will be expelled from the tail pipe.

How do I flush the cooling system in a 2000 hyundai elantra?

There are several methods for flushing the cooling system on ALL engine cooling systems. Time honored is drain the radiator (drain ****). Fill with fresh water and run engine to operating temperature until cooling fans turn on. Drain cooling system again. Refill with 50-50 coolant. Another method is purchasing a "T" vlave (coolant flush/service kit) from Autozone, PepBoys, NAPA, O'Reilys, CarQuest, etc.). This "T" valve is installed in one of the heater hoses & attached to a garden hose. Remove the radiator cap & turn on the water supply to the garden hose. Let water run until flush water is 'clear'. Remove garden hose from T valve & refill radiator with pure coolant until the T valve drainage turns green/orange. Install T valve cap... DONE!

Do not remove radiator cap to add coolant to system. When adding coolant to maintain correct level, do so at coolant reserve/overflow tank. Use a 50/50 mixture of ethylene glycol antifreeze containing Alugard 340-2 y and low mineral content water.
Remove radiator cap only for testing or when refilling system after service. Removing cap unnecessarily can cause loss of coolant and allow air to enter system, which produces corrosion.

The cooling system is closed and designed to maintain coolant level to top of radiator.
Remove radiator cap. The coolant level should be to top of radiator. If not, and if coolant level in coolant recovery bottle is at ADD mark, check for:
  • An air leak in coolant reserve/overflow tank or its hose
  • An air leak in radiator filler neck
  • Leak in pressure cap seal to radiator filler neck

I woke up this morning and my antifreeze had been leaking. I think it's leaking from the hose that connects the radiator to the engine. Is this a cheap fix to do on my own? Are there any other reasons it...

i would 1st check to see that the hose clamp was not loose, if so then tighten it with a screwdriver , or suitable tool. if hose has to be replaced , cooling sysytem will have to be drained down enough to allow the hose and clamp to be removed, without losing anti freze, then remove the hose and clamp then install the new hose, and clamp , and tighten down, re fill cooling system, and then start up vehicle and check for leaks, add aditional coolant if needed, then install radiator cap, then shut off engine, let engine cool, and later recheck coolant level. make sure engines cooling system has purged it self by getting the air out of the system , [ by running engine after you replace the parts, and etc, make sure you don't over heat the engine, it temperature gage riies, shut off engine, let it cool so engine can purge.

Chrysler & Jeep Cooling System & HVAC Service: Every car make has its quirks, and Chrysler and Jeep vehicles are no exception. In researching this article, we found several examples of heater problems in these vehicles that seem to be fairly common.

On 2001 and 2002 Sebring Sedan, Sebring Convertible and Stratus Sedan, plus 1993 to 2002 Chrysler Concorde, LHS, New Yorker and 300M, Eagle Vision and Dodge Intrepid models with V6 engines, customers may complain their engine is overheating, or the heater is putting out little or no heat.

Chrysler Technical Service Bulletin 07-002-02 says the problem can be caused by a low coolant level in the cooling system. On these vehicles, air trapped inside the cooling system can displace coolant when the system is refilled. The radiator and coolant reservoir may appear to be full, but there still may be air inside the heater core and heater hoses. This will create a low coolant level that may lead to overheating and low heater output. The bulletin provides a special fill procedure to eliminate the trapped air so the cooling system can be completely filled.

The procedure goes as follows:
1. Obtain Chrysler special tool 8195 (Cooling System Filling Aid). The tool looks like a funnel and attaches onto the filler neck (just as a regular pressure cap does). But it also has a hose clip.
2. Attach the filling aid tool to the cooling system filler neck. Use the clip to pinch off the overflow hose attached to the fill neck. Attach a 4-6' long 1/4" ID clear hose to the bleed valve. Put the end of the hose into a clean container (to prevent coolant from spilling onto the accessory drive belts).
3. Open the cooling system air bleed valve before any coolant is added. If you do not do this, air can remain trapped inside the system and you won't get all the air out. On 1998 and later models with 2.7L engine, the valve is located on the water outlet connector at the front of the engine. On 3.2L and 3.5L engines, the valve is located on the lower intake manifold, left of center under the upper intake manifold. On 1993-'97 models with 3.3L and 3.5L engines, the valve is on the thermostat housing.
4. Pour a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water into the large side of the filling aid funnel. Use distilled, deionized or reverse-osmosis purified water, not ordinary tap water, which may contain salt or minerals that could contaminate the coolant.
5. Slowly fill the cooling system through the large side of the filling aid. Watch the hose connected to the bleed valve. When a steady stream of coolant comes out of the hose, close the bleed valve and continue filling to the top of the filling aid.
6. On 1993-'97 models, place a small, clean container below the end of the overflow hose. Then remove the clip from the overflow hose. Any excess coolant in the filling aid will now drain into the overflow section of the coolant bottle or into the container.
7. On 1993-'97 models, remove the reservoir and recycle the excess coolant.
8. Remove the filling aid from the fill neck. Make sure the filler neck and cap are clean, then replace the pressure cap on the coolant bottle.

Note: 1998 and later coolant bottles have two chambers. Coolant will normally only be in the inboard (smaller) of the two. The outboard chamber is only to recover coolant in the event of an overheat and should normally be empty - except for the coolant drained from the filling aid. This coolant will be drawn back into the pressurized side of the cooling system over time.

Losing coolant from the reservoir but cannot see any coolant leaking on drive. Fill reservior to MAX and within ~10miles, reservoir is drained. Refill while engine still hot and don't lose nearly as much...

my '01 Jetta had a similar problem. I could always smell coolant and the bottle was always low. I crawled under the car and there it was..a caked on mess of pink antifreeze. There is a plastic intersection 3 way valve where the coolant temp sensor resides. it has 2 bolts and a rubber o-ring. Because it is plastic, it cracks. it drips down onto areas which are really not visible from above and then sizzles and melts onto areas under the engine. The part was only about $25, took 30 min to install and my problem is now fixed. Air was getting into the system through the small crack in the valve further complicating the system operation.

loosen pressure cap slowly at coolant tank to relieve pressure,when pressure is relieved remove cap,place a suitable container under drain valve at bottom of radiator open drain valve.when coolant has stopped draining,close valve.then remove thermostat,[this is a good time to replace t.stat since it must be removed to refill cooling system],disconnect heater core coolant supply hose at rear of intake manifold.add coolant thru t.stat opening until coolant comes out of coolant supply hose fitting,reinstall hose and tighten[not to tight] reinstall thermostat o ring and thermostat.add coolant to tank until the coolant level is between the COOLANT FILL LEVEL the maximum heater temperature and blower speed settings run engine until it reaches operating temp.add coolant until the coolant level is between the COOLANT FILL LEVEL marks.turn off engine allow it to cool, recheck coolant level,add as needed .ford requires this procedure to avoid engine damage due to trapped air.

How do i refill the coolant in the car after replacing upper hose

hello, your car has a reservoir tank were you put the coolant in at all you have to do is start your car and it'll draw coolant from there after your car runs a few minutes check your coolant reservoir tank it;ll probably be close to empty also since you took your hose off you'll have air in your system that you'll need to bleed out of the system otherwise your car will over heat and you wont get proper coolant flow the bleeder valve is a small brass bolt that you can use a wrench to open and close it with, with your car running just open the valve until you see coolant flow out then close it do this till you get a solid stream of coolant flow and check your reservoir often while doing this keep it full.
